Does anyone know what books cover the colonial history of the municipalities of Jalisco that are near the southeast shoreline of Laguna Chapala? The municipalities that are of greatest interest to me are Mazamitla, Quitupan, and Valle de Juarez, Jalisco. Those municipalities are close to Sahuayo, and Cotija, Michoacan. My historical research of the area has come up dry. Not much more could be said for my genealogical research of the area, either. I also want to know what clans settled in those three Jalisco municipalities and how Valle de Juarez came to be. I have already read the Wikipedia article, but the level of detail was cursory at best. The links on the article were outdated.

If anyone knows of any resource that describes this area in detail, I would much appreciate it. Thanks!

I am interested in finding more information on the word "Vale" and its origin. I can remember hearing the word "vale" around the house. The word "vale" is used when referring to someone.
I do not want to confuse anyone with the way that the spanish use the word vale. Correct me if I'm wrong, for the spanish, it means something like "OK" or "de acuerdo". An example of its use in Jalisco would be: Qvo le Vale, Andale Vale, Mira Vale, Ese Vale. Some people use it more than others but I have noticed that people from Jalisco, Nayarit, Sinaloa seem to use it the most.

Hello Everyone ~?~ Let me first introduce myself.  My name is Gloria (Tello) Jackson and I am brand new at this, having never been on Nuestros Ranchos before.  However, as soon as I came across the Nuestros Ranchos Genealogy Group Website I saw that the research centered on Jalisco, Zacatecas and Aguascalientes.  Oh my!  I was instantly interested and filled with hope.  What has been nagging me for about 30 years now is the fact I have wanted to know more about my grandfather?s lineage but didn?t know how to achieve the results I needed.  My grandfather?s  name was Luis Tello Martinez and he was born in San Pedro Ocampo in Zacatecas in 1883.  Everything that lies beyond him is a total, complete mystery to us, his grandchildren, except knowing that his father?s name was Daniel Tello.  That is as far as it goes because I still do not know when he was born nor do I know what his birthplace was.  But I do know that he was a silver ore miner who
died of pneumonia
  at Concepci?n del Oro, Zacatecas sometime before 1922.  As a teenager young Luis Tello had worked in the mines with his father Daniel, but he found out that a miner?s work was not to his liking.  Luis chose to finish school instead and did not become a miner like his father.

Now, I have observed that some families of Mexican descent openly share their roots, but ours simply did not.  This is why it was necessary for me to join a group like this of like-minded people who are intent and serious about researching their roots in Mexico.  And that?s where the hope comes in.  I say that because there?s now a big chance for our family to know what?s back there past our paternal great-grandfather Daniel Tello.  I might possibly even find the one Tello ancestor who was a pasajero (passenger) on one of Queen Isabella?s ships.  Anything beyond that, of course, would be icing on the cake!

So, after receiving the Nuestros Ranchos Emails for some months now, I rest assured that you are a great group of people ?en busca de sus antepasados? (in search of your ancestors) as well.    I believe you will be able to assist me in my own family research for our Tello Great-Grandfathers.    I strongly suspect that our complete Tello line in New Spain were all involved in mining silver, gold, and mineral ores.  They do appear to have kept themselves working in the highlands and mountainous mining areas of central Mexico.  At least that?s what I?ve noticed from all that I am finding from FamilySearch.org (the LDS) and also from what was told to me by my Father and by my Paternal Grandmother.

My question to you will greatly help me in my research.  Can anyone tell me please what the oldest most ancient mines in and around the state of Zacatecas are and what their names are?  My grandmother mentioned Mazap?l, Zacatecas, Mezquital del Oro, San Luis Potos?, Parral, Matehuala, San Pedro de Ocampo, Melchor Ocampo and Concepci?n del Oro.  These are second-nature to me now because I heard both my grandmother and my father mention them as to but a few places in central Mexico where our great-grandfather spent his time working.    But perhaps there are others that I can quickly recall if I once again hear their names.

My ancestors descend back in to the Cabesa de Baca surname in the southern cities Of Ocotlan, Jamay, and La Barca, Jalisco. Are there any members with ancestry in this part of the state? My direct ancestors are Refugio Cabesa de Baca and Jose Maria Mora from Jalisco.

my name is Roberto Rosales Villalpando, and I recently started doing genealogy
research. Growing up I was always curious about my family history. Sadly, I
wandered around with many questions, but no answers. Now, that I am going for a
biology major I have found a passion in genealogy, I do not know why, but
knowing who my ancestors were gives me a sense of belonging. Now I know more
about my family than my only great-grandmother still living.
My recent family ancestry was from the Huanusco,Zacatecas-Calvillo,Aguascalientes
region, and from Tlachichila,Nochistlan, Zacatecas.  To be more exact my father’s family is from
La Palma, Huanusco, Zacatecas and my mother is from a single family ranch on
the division of Zacatecas and Aguascalientes called La Calera (near Arroyo
Soto). I can trace my paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather's lineage
to el Arroyo de Soto, Calvillo, Aguascalientes multiple times on my family tree,
since I have the Serna surname all over my family tree. My parents are even
third cousins through the Serna's. Thanks to my maternal grandmother who came
from Tlachichila, Zacatecas I have different surnames I can add to my family
tree.
I also recently had my DNA tested through 23andme.
I have an extensive family tree, with a few brick walls along
the way, which I hope to overcome with the help of Nuestros Ranchos, and I look
forward on working with all of you.

Hello, I'm so glad to find this group. My interest is in finding information about the farm of my grandfather X 10, Fernando Javier Ribera y Moncada and his family in Tala, Jalisco in the late 1700s. After his death, his belongings were sold in Tala, so I'm hoping that means that is where his farm was. By that time his wife, María Teresa Dávalos-Bracamonte y Patron, was deceased as was his son, Jose Nicolas Ribera y Dávalos (my ancestor).
I do not know where they are buried. Did the church in Tala (1700s) have a cemetery?
I would be so thankful for any help anyone can give me with these questions. Thanks.

The record is for Severiana Torres to Guillermo Godoy, the parents to my great grandmother- Andrea Godoy.

Hello to all the researchers out there.

I am still trying to find information on my Acevedo Line. The farthest back I have gone is to 1773 in Tepetongo, Zacatecas.

Jose Toribio born about 1773 in Tepetongo, Zacatecas, married Trinidad Quesada. He also remarried after being widowed; to Maria Rita Almaraz on December 1830.

His brother
Jose Maria Acevedo was born about 1785.
was married on 10-12-1811 in Zacatecas,
Zacatecas to Maria Josefa Aguiar.

Another brother Bernardo Acevedo was born about 1787. He married Marianna Lujan (or Lopez) on 11-l6-1811.

All three brothers marriage record lists their father as Juan Jose Acevedo.

I cannot find any record of Juan Jose Acevedo.

Is there any one out there that might be able to help me.?

Does anyone know where Zacatecas Sagrario baptisms of the 1700's are? I looked in the usual place in familysearch but they are not there (Zacatecas, Zacatecas, Sagrario)There is a gap from 1678 to 1840.

Does anyone have information about a certain José de Figueroa Venegas, who lived in Jalpa, Zac in the 1650s? I found him in the entry below in "Libro primero del Notario Felipe de Espinoza, correspondiente al año de 1653". I haven't had any luck finding information about him. Any help would be appreciated.

I installed Google Chrome on all the computers and the icons that link to
familysearch sites now use Chrome. Internet Explorer is still available in
the tray at the bottom of the screen.

When using Chrome, you should know that to search for something there is no
separate search box, you just type your search item into the same place you
would type an address.

Antonio Avila, son of Juan de Avila and Josepha Ximenes? married Ysobel Avila, daughter of Joseph de Avila and Bernarda Ortega in Tlaltenango 14 Jan 1747. I believe they may be related because Manuel Avila and Maria Leubana were padrinos for Josepha Avila Ortega (21 Nov. 1721 of Tlaltenango) and Juana Gertrudis Avila Ximenes (8 Dec 1734 of Tlaltenango) I would appreciate knowing if anyone has been working on these family trees and can assist me.
