Mexican Imperial Almanac of 1866

I just found a great find through doing some google.com.mx searches this past weekend in relation to Imperial Orders of Mexico.

Hi there Texn 4 ,

I don´t know if you recieved the Mexican goverment web site for Military records . They have records dating back quite a bit and all you have to do is send them the full name and year exact or approximately and they will send you the information of that individual .

> I just found a great find through doing some google.com.mx searches this past weekend in relation to Imperial Orders of Mexico. It appears that there was an Almanaque Imperial produced during the reign of Maximiliano y Carlota. The one I found was from the year 1866, when Imperial control reached its full extent in Mexico.
>
> There is a wealth of information, especially names to be found. Among them is military information that seems so hard for many of us to get to. For example, the comisarios imperiales are listed. The area we are looking into was divided between the Tercera Division, its capital being San Luis Potosi. The area, while including San Luis Potosi also included Fresnillo, which i'm guessing encompassed the northern half of Zacatecas. The rest of Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Colima and Nayarit among other area's were under the Cuarta Division, its capital being Guadalajara.
>
> Departamentos del Imperio are also listed. Breaking it down from the prefect of the region, to the subprefects of the various cities of those regions.
>
> I also have a seperate list, but also overlaps in many places with the almanaque imperial, of those knighted during the Second Mexican Empire from these three states. I collected this list from a book I had just learned about called Genealogias de Familias Antiguas Mexicanos, published in 1908.
>
> I intend to post up these in the files section. I didn't post a link as the almanac is scattered throughout google in pdf format, although I can post some links if anyone wants to look through that whole book. The Genealogias book, which is actually 3 seperate and large books, I looked through it in person at the special collections section at my university.

Comment

Yes, I did recieve that link, thanks. Although the general point is it being hard to find such a wealth of information for that time period in Mexico. Especially the imperial half of it which perhaps some of our ancestors were a part of.
Here is an example, perhaps someone will find some relation to the following list. Again, this comming from the Almanaque Imperial, 1866.

Departamentos del Imperio

Francisco R. de Esparza, Prefecto del departamento de Aguascalientes.

Bernardo Flores, Subprefecto de Lagos.

Eduardo Renteria, Subprefecto de Cuguio.

Mariano Rodriguez, Prefecto del departamento de Fresnillo.

Valente Ita y Hurtado, Subprefecto de Somberete.

Gil Santos Coy, Subprefecto de Mazopil.

Juan Escarcia, Subprefecto provisional de San Juan de Guadalupe.

Jose Maria Avila, Prefecto del departamento de Zacatecas.

Francisco Cabrera, Subprefecto del districto de Jerez.

General de Brigada Mariano Morett, Prefecto del departamento de Jalisco, Alcalde municipal de Guadalajara.

Antonio Mardueno, Subprefecto de Tlajamulco.

Jose Maria Meza, Subprefecto de Zapopan.

Abundio Ricon, Subprefecto de Cocula.

Juan Figueroa, Subprefecto de Ahuacatlan.

Miguel Garcia Vargas, Subprefecto de Autlan.

Of course there is also a list of the military commanders and sub-commanders of the regions. One of the interesting lists I've found is of ingenieros registered throughout Mexico, so far I've found 2 names from Jalisco, and one each from Zacatecas and Aguascalientes.

I have uploaded a large number of batch numbers for Coahuila and Nuevo Leon to the films database on Nuestros Ranchos. Given that many Nuestros Ranchos members have ancestry in those states, particularly those whose families ended up in Texas, I think these should be very useful to the membership.

If you have any films from those states on permanent loan, please go into the database and indicate so. I will try to get San Luis Potosi and some other northern states into the database in the near future as well.

Not sure if our ancestors could be related, but I do have a Jose Maria Rojas in my family tree that was in Jerez during that time, although he married a Pinedo. Both my Pinedo and Rojas lines go back one more generation from there, but that's all I have the names without any places or dates.

As an interesting side note, I think the first governor of Zacatecas in the Mexican Republic was called Jose Maria Rojas. Not sure if there is any relation.

This was actually one of the topics that I wanted to get to as soon as I became a member on here. I noticed that you had asked in a post months ago for a list of regiments from Zacatecas. To note, it is possible many of our Zacatecas ancestors served in the state militia or national guard as Zacatecas touted a rather large force during the era of President de Santa Ana, at its height in the 1830's it is estimated to have stood at 17,000 men.

I have not found any particular Zacatecas national guard or militia unit that served during the Mexican-American war, considering no fighting took place near Zacatecas. However, there were numerous engagements for Zacatecas during la guerra de la reforma during the late 1850's and once again during the French intervention in the 1860's.
I have yet to find the specific regiments of this era though.

Have you tried the Mexican Goverment site for Military people .

Here is a site that you can visit and request a copy of the person who served in the Mexican Military .

Give the full name of the person and the year or years that they may have served and they will answer you and e-mail you a copy .

Hi Esther,

Sorry , it´s taken me so long to respond I was having a great time in Puerto Vallarta . No phones , no internet . Sadly I came home tonight .

I never asked them about that Esther . I think it couldn´t hurt if you wrote them and gave them the info on your relative and see what happens . It could help us all out if they have info on soldiers in the early years .

I think its "Padre no conocidos" which means the son of uknown people....it is possible he was fromsomewhere else where the priest did not know. Did you check informacion matrimonial too?I have had some cases with this and it usually means dead end. Its also very common withnative american ancestries based on my researched in early aguascalientes films.

Hola Salvador,

pasajero a Indias.

Bill:

I have previously gotten copies of documents that are not digitized online from the Spanish archives. I sent an email through their "Contacte con Archivos" form (bottom left hand corner of the site). They put me in touch with someone who gave me a written cost estimate for reproduction and mailing of the documents and then I had to go through the hassle of getting a Euro-denominated check to them and they eventually sent me the documents. It took a long time and was a bit of a hassle but it was doable.

Good luck. Let me know if you need any more help.

Comment

Arturo,

Several times before I came across documents in PARES that I wanted to
check, but were unable to display online. Now that I know how to go about
getting copies, I will try to find as many as possible in order to minimize
the hazzle of getting the Euro-denominated check(s).

Thanks for your help.

Celestino,

135 su libro "San Gabriel Valley Families of Nueva
Galicia":

1) "Martel, Hernando"
"The son of Pedro de Huerta and Maria Gonzalez de Ruvalcaba. His parents
were residents in the juridiction of teocaltiche, Jalisco in 1603."

Fuenllana. No encuentro ningún Martel en esta familia.

2) "Martel Hernando"
"The son of Pedro Gonzalez y Maria Frias. He married Beatriz de Villegas on
22 Oct 1634 in Aguascalientes. The witnesses were Diego Sanchez y Gabriel
Lopez."

3) "Martel, Juana"
"The daughter of Pedro Gonzalez and Maria de Frias. She married Miguel de la
Sierra on 19 Sep 1613 in Aguas.. The witnesses were Bautista Conte and Luis
Gonzalez and Juan Ximenez."

When our great grandmother Prudencia Carmona Lopez Beltran Romo in 1900 brought back the child named Rosario Martinez from Caquistle because her mother had died and father could not care for her. She was raised as one of thier children and my grandfather Isador considered her a sister.

Rosario Martinez married Manuel Carmona. We were always taught to call her "Tia" , it felt more honorary than actual.

To find the Carmona connection through Prudencia and Apolonio will make many of the relatives here in La Verne quite happy.

Most of the records they transcribe are for New Mexico. There is a San Felipe in Valenica County. I noticed going through the New Mexico records lots of people in marriage records listed as being from Zacatecas, Mexico. FYI Jokae

I have not ordered the transcribe yet. I would contact the genealogy society of Albuquerque. # is on the order form on the link at bottom of the page. Most of the records they transcribe are for New Mexico. There is a San Felipe in Valenica County. I noticed going through the New Mexico records lots of people in marriage records listed as being from Zacatecas, Mexico. FYI Jokae

Hello Dennis. I have a little more of information of the ancestors of Ave Maria Carlota Carmona Beltran, the wife of Manuel Romo Reyes, the son of Mariano Romo, and Paula Reyes.

Her parents was, as you know, Juan Beltran HUERTA, AND LOPEZ Prudencia Carmona LOPEZ ,

The new information is: According to the Juan and Prudencia Marriage Registration, Juan's parents was Juan Beltran and Maria Huerta and Prudencia's parents was (confirming what I expected) Pioquinto Carmona and Lorenza Lopez

Your translation was perfect. I didn't even know that you don't speak English, but you sure can write it correctly. I think you write better English than some people who don't know anything else.

I am searching the records reserch pilot at family search and was able to locate the marrige of Simona Romo to Simon Beltran Nov 15 1884 in Encarnacion Diaz, they had a child named Bartola Beltran that was Christened Mar 04 1896 and that is where all of her information ended.

I was hoping to see if she was married and had children?

Did Pioquinto Carmona have a son named Apolonio Carmona?

There was a story that Manuel Reyes Romo and Ave Maria Carmona Beltran brought to the US abt 1900 a girl named Rosario Martinez who's mother died and father could not care for her. She married Married a Manuel Carmona Here in La Verne, his fathers name was Juan Carmona of Caquistle and Mother was Crispina Vasquez of San Diego, Juan's Fathers name was Apolonio and his wife was Crispina Vasquez.

One could only believe that a family member would let there daughter go with another family member?

Is there anyway that Guanajuato can be included. Everyone from Nuestros Ranchos is very interested in Zacatecas and Jalisco and so am I but not as much as interested in Guanajuato. I think I am the only person in the whole group that is searching in Guanajuato.

(Ocampo, San Felipe).

Last Names( Cortez, Espinosa, Gonzales, Torres, Alvardo,Ortiz, Tinajero, and Huerta) You know....just a little paragraph added at the bottom would not hurt.

Every state is important to our research but don't forget this group specializes in specific Mexican states.  I'd love to see Michoacan but it's not part of this group so I will wait and enjoy what I can share and  have shared with me on Zacatecas and Jalisco.

I agree with you, Linda. If too many people start requesting a whole group of states to be put on the Pilot program, then FamilySearch will continue to follow their own agenda unless they get people to do the input for those specific states. I think we should only address the three states that this forum was set up for.

Thanks to you and the others who have shared their transcriptions with us.

My family as far down as I am at the moment which is 1840 started off from San Felipe Guanajuato. From there they moved to San Isidro de Ocampo Gto and then Ocampo Gto......which is where my sisters and brothers were born. I was born in San Luis Potosi.

I'm Trying to see if my 1800 family started in San Felipe Gto. or if they migrated to San Felipe Gto. from a different state but I am stuck at the moment.

Daniel I'm sorry but not sure what you mean Alteno. Is this a last name or a place name?

Jaime your last name is Gonzalez...do you have a file with your ancestors that I can look at?

Batch Number C602837
Source Dates: 1682 - 1717.
Source Call no. 0280668

Daniel - do you know what would be involved in overseeing this project? I'm considering it but I want to get a better idea of the commitment needed before I agree to take on such a project.

Hi prima,
I hope this email finds you and your family well. I just found out that my
great tia Juaquina Gutierrez (Maiden) sister of Norberto Gutierrez died in
So Cal. Do you know where I can find her obit and picture? I searched the
San Diego Obits but could not find it. I'm not sure what her married name

Prima,
I wrote to you about it. Remember? It's Joaquina Martinez, she was your grandfather's sister as well as my grandmother's sister. She was the daughter (youngest) of Norberto and Margarita. She died in Chula Vista and her body was taken to Tijuana where she had lived. She was preceded in death by a daughter and son who died young. We went to her funeral mass and I gave the cousins a family tree poster that I put together after I got info from her daughter, Guadalupe. It was a great pleasure for me to share the info with them and I know they enjoyed it and promised to share old photos and will help fill in the blanks on the other decendents. I will try to send you a photo of her when she was young. She was one of the most beautiful women in the family.

Hello, Introduction...

Hello:

I´m José Humberto Suárez Villarreal. I´ve been doing some research on my family, for almost 10 years or so I focused mainly in my maternal side (Villarreal De La Fuente Zertuche Rodríguez - from Nuevo León and Coahuila). But a couple of years ago I started with my paternal lines (Orozco, Moreno). Later I found interesting links of this families with the "Familias Alteñas" that were in Nueva Galicia since the times of colonization.

thanks for your intro and your participation in the group. I'm at a
disadvantage since I'm not an Alteño, but then again I do have a
Miramontes GGGGG grandmother from the Tlaltenango area (not Los Altos).
I thought that Steven Hernandez said that the Miramontes were originally
Alteños. Well I'm probably mistaken. I wrote to welcome you to the group
and to leave you in the hands of the Strong SIG group within the
Nuestros Ranchos group that are from Los Altos.

The Miramontes are not Altenos at all. They are from Tlaltenango 100 percent. There are a few of us researching this family and we have all come to the conclusion that Juan de Miramonte was the first (and only) immigrant to Mexico with this name and he married Maria de (Haro y) Saucedo around 1580, who was a descendant of both the Bobadillas and Delgados (encomenderos of Tepechitlan and El Teul, respectively) and settled in Tlaltenango.

The Haros and the Miramontes (and Saucedos) from Tlaltenango are the same family descendant from this couple.

You will find the information on this Juan de Miramonte(s) in the GEDCOM database. I have not yet found the definitive descendancy of Maria de Saucedo, i.e. the names of her parents and grandparents, therefore her parents are not listed in the database. However, we are are sure that she was descendant of Pedro de Bobadilla and Luis Delgado in some manner.

Well that nails it I'm not an Alteno in any shape way or form (I feel so
common now). . .at least at this point in my research.

thanks Arturo. . .you don't happen to have a Maria Melchora Miramontes
in the late 1760-1790 time frame from Tlaltenango do you?

She would have been married to Luis Castaneda (son of Diego Castaneda).
I'm guessing from the area right close to if not in Cuculiten.

thanks,

As far as Melchora Miramontes... I have been focusing my research on the non-indexed marriage film from Tlaltenango which ends around 1715, therefore she would be too late to be in the database. However, when you mentioned the Diego Castaneda name, it rang a bell and I do have a Diego Castaneda who was having children in Tlaltenango and Atolinga around 1750 in my own family database.

Do you think this is the same person?

http://www.ramosfamily.org/nextgen/getperson.php?personID=I980

Comment

Arturo I finally did a smart thing and looked at the date. I was only
wrong by about 50 years is the good news. Luis Castaneda and ?
Miramontes were married in 1730 his parents were Diego Castaneda and
Ynnot. but some of the Testigos were Gonzales. so I'm wondering if this
still might be some of the same family. Here is that record if you or
anyone would like to help figure it out. Kind of difficult:

http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/14541

if they were married in 1730 they must have been born around 1710 or so.
Still out of the range of the 1715 time period you mention.

thanks,

thanks for the Castanedas from Aguas. . .I'll have to dig in there one
day for a good long search. . .one day.

Well could it be that there are testigos associated with the groom and
testigos associated with the bride.

with the groom: Luis de Raigoza and Diego Mojarro then there is a ";"
then the bride is listed Francisca Ana Miramontes and her testigos: Ju
Visente Gonzales, Ju Jose Gonzales, Dn Xabier Sesati . . .actually no
thats not true or hard to beleive.

Well maybe not associated with the bride and groom but with "Fueron
Testigos de su libertad y solteria" for the first batch of testigos and
then for the second batch of testigos: "Fueron Testigos de la selebrasion."

interesting document though. . .I want to believe that the bride is
Francisca, but maybe she was a testigo in the midst of 5 male testigos.

As usual....very late in my response!

The following is a short description from Omniglot.com
of what a Morisco is. Of course with "Libre" added
on, I would assume that they were referring to Muslims
freely practice Islam.

"The Moriscos (Spanish for "Moor-like") were Muslims
in Spain and Portugal how were forced to convert to
Christianity at the beginning of the 16th century.
Many Moriscos continued to practice Islam, most in
secret, but some did so openly. A decree issued by
King Felipe II in 1566 obliged the Moriscos to adopt
Spanish language, dress and customs. A number of
unsuccessful rebellions of the Moriscos led to them
being relocated from Granada to other parts of Spain,
particularly Castile. At the beginning of the 17th
century the Moriscos were expelled from Spain to
Algeria, Tunisia, and Morocco."

Hope this helps Helyn!

For "morisco libre" I found two possible meanings: someone who is a child of
a mulatto father and a Spanish mother or a "freed Moor" in contrast to a
slave Moor.

Maybe someone can confirm or correct me on this?

Hello everyone!

I have recently begun working on my family tree for both my grandmother and
grandfather's side. They were both originally from Jalisco, Mexico. They
lived the majority of their lives in Tonaya. My grandmother Maria Inez
Bautista Diaz was born in Cuatlancillo on April 20, 1903 to Marcos Bautista
and Gabriela Dias - she was 1 of 7 children born to Marcos and Gabriela. My
grandfather Antonio Michel Flores was born in or near El Limon/La Cienega on
January 17, 1900 to Leandro Michel (born 1868) and Maria Flores (born
1874) - he is 1 of 9 children born to Leandro and Maria.

I have spent countless hours at the family history library as well as on my
computer at home but I seem to have reached a road block - If anyone has any
information it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Julie Fernandez (Michel)
