Hi Victor,

I didn't realize the Villarreales were connected to Zacatecas, although
I have read some history on Zacatecas and came across the Villarreal name
quite often, particularly during the time of civil war - I thought the
original one settled in Oaxaca.  I have not been able to make a connection
with Danny, although the area that he mentions in Nuevo Leon (the place settled
by the original settlers there - Hidalgo, Nuevo Leon) is where my father's
grandfather was from.  It appears that the family moved to Coahuila around
1830 - not really sure why, but I suspect it had to do with the Independence and
"free" territory to those willing to fight the hostile Apaches who lived in
the area.  My grandmother also happens to be a Villarreal, but her
relatives are from Cd Victoria area.  I still have a great aunt who lives
in Nuevo Leon, she lives in Monterrey.  I am hoping to make a journey there
this summer, to tap into her memories.....

I would love to hear how you

Angie,

Thank you so much for the record. I'll keep the list of Serrano's names that you're looking for at hand. I'd be happy to return you the favor!

Family Tree Software

I think I'm getting close for my first pedigree file download.
However, I have two issues.

1) I have Family Tree Maker 2005, and I don't know how to send it, nor
to whom.

2) In this file, I have many relatives who are still living. Should I make
a duplicate file, edit out the living relatives, then post this one?

Thanks, Ken Alva

Hello Esperanza,

So glad to read your message and to know that you're also a Villarreal! Is that your paternal surname?

I still haven't been able to bridge beyond the 6th generation but I haven't exhausted all resources yet. What I know for sure is that most of my Villarreals are in Nuevo Leon. How about you?

About Danny, I've contacted him on a couple of occasions via e-mail but still haven't found the common link (if there is one.) By the way, I have already sent in a DNA sample to be analyzed, but the results won't be back until early March, I hope. Chances are that most of the Villarreals in Nuevo León are related. Although I know that even Diego Villarreal, who is one of the earliest Villarreales in Nuevo León originally came from Mazapil, Zacatecas. So it is possible that there might be a connection between the northeastern and the southern Villarreales.

Just one more thing about Danny; I think he has done a good job encouraging many to do their genealogies and his

Looking for book "Una seccion de los Alba de los Altos de Jalis...

Joseph,

Thank you for locating this book. It seems to be available at only one
location in North America, the University of Florida. I took your advice
and requested the book through my university library. The automated
records indicated that it was only available "on site" at U of F. I decided
to call Gainesville, Florida anyway. A really neat Resource Manager explained
that the reason for the restriction was that the library was suffering a
manpower shortage and unable to process interlibrary loans until the
position gets filled. He asked me to call back in a month when they will be
happy to loan the book to me.

Joseph, thanks again for locating this book for me. I really appreciate
it.

Ken

Victor:

I am also a Villarreal - are you done with that line of research, and does
it connect to Danny Villarreal?

Interesting enough, my mother's side of the family is from Tlaltenango - we
are Luna/Herrera and others.....

Wouldn't it be cool if were related on both ends?

Esperanza

CATALOGO DE PASAJEROS A INDIAS

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure you'll not find the book but only
the film of the volumes from 1509-1559.

We will be traveling south in two weeks and I'll make an effort to stop
there, maybe off peak times to miss the big traffic jams.

for the Report. . .I wish I had a FHC like Westwood close to me. Here
is what is available on the Pasajeros via the FHC. It looks like in
books it goes to 1599 but on Film only to 1559:

CATALOGO DE PASAJEROS A INDIAS

I have known about the Catalogo de Pasajeros a las
Indias for the last 5 years. It is a great resource,
however, it only helps if you if you have your
genealogy in the 1500's. If your not that far back,
it really won't help that much, especially if you have
a common name. Still, if your surname is unique, it
will tell you the first people that came to the
Americas with your surname. Remember the lists are
for New Spain, Peru, and the Caribbean Islands.

Saludos,
Angel
