Was Texas/Los Californias Part of La Nueva Galicia?

I was reading this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nueva_Galicia

" Nueva Galicia's territory became the present-day states of Aguascalientes, Colima, Jalisco, Nayarit and Zacatecas"

But after looking at the Catholic Church Archives of La Nueva Galicia. It often starts out mentioning the Obispo de Guadalajara de La Nueva Galicia de las provincias de Nayarit, Coahuila, Durango, Los Californias, Texas Del Consejo.

Need Help On Old Newspapers (Colonial Times)

La Gaceta was one of the newspapers that was in circulation since 1722 in Mexico and I had gone to a website of the UNAM where you just enter what you want to look for in basic search. For example, "Fernando De La Campa y Cos" and it would list all newspapers along with years that has articles highlighted in yellow containing the words "Fernando De La Campa." I was quickly able to read old articles going as far back as 1722.

But it seems the UNAM changed their website:

http://www.hndm.unam.mx/index.php/es/

Now when I try to search for "Fernando De La Campa" It doesn't look for the exact words even if I go to advanced search. Also now many of those articles are:

"Restringido (PDF)" means you can only look at them from within the institution.

"Publico" means you can view them on the internet.

I can't find Fernando De La Campa like before they changed their website.

Do any of you know of other websites to look at old newspaper articles during colonial times?

Physical Description of Juan De Rebolledo 1717

I was reading the pasajero de indias (Cadiz, Espana) a la Nueva Espana of Juan De Rebolledo year 1717 and here is a physical description of him:

http://oi61.tinypic.com/oqk3h1.jpg

Pars website: http://www.archivesportaleurope.net/web/guest

Reference to look up: CONTRATACION,5469,N.3,R.98

Description on page 6

Juan De Rebolledo was the husband of Juliana De La Campa, the youngest daughter of Don Fernando De La Campa y Cos of the Hacienda of San Mateo, Valparaiso, Zacatecas, Mexico

Since Juan Rebolledo was single in 1717. I have seen an article from "La Gaceta" newspaper year 1722 where it mentions of a visit to Zacatecas, Juan Rebolledo for some special occasion of Juliana De La Campa y Cos

Juan Rebolledo was also the Capitan/Governor of the Provincia of Texas De La Nuevo Espana(Mexico)

Hello! My name is Isela Cueva Rizzi. I joined this listserv a few years ago when I was planning a trip to the rancho where my dad (who died 16 years ago at 68 years old) was born & raised - Rancho Santa Marta near Tecolotlan. I was most interested in learning more about my dad’s father, Esteban Cueva, of whom I know very little. From what I understand, my grandfather, Esteban, died when my dad was around 2 or 3 years old. My dad was his illegitimate child. Esteban was married to Catalina and they had several children together. Though they lived in the Rancho, they were connected to Tecolotlan.

I am not sure if my grandfather is related to the Cueva's you mention below. This is the first time since I’ve been a member that my last name and the nearby town of Tecolotlan has come up. I am very excited for the possibility of learning more about my grandfather & patriarchal lineage.

Many thanks for whatever help or encouragement you can offer.

Isela

Hi Joseph,

Per Jossie's email you know now that I am trying to publish a great work written by Mariano Gonzalez Leal, considered one of the best Spanish Genealogist.

His work was published several years ago by the Government of Jalisco, but just a few copies, and they are gone long ago.

I consider it so important in its field that I am exploring ways to finance its production.

It is a set of 10 books, including all the information since the "Conquistadores" came to Nueva Galicia up to today, it will not be an easy task.

I am planning to print 1,000 sets and hard cover each one instead of soft, to be able to reduce the 10 books set to 5 or 6.

I uderstand that you and your organization are interested particularly in this area and so, I am open to hear any idea you might have to bring this project to life.

I am in China right now, printing a book, but available through my email.

Thanks for your time.

Regards

to anyone here who wants to see what indexes i'm working on but haven't finished yet

the reason why i'm sharing this is because when i start college again after september 24, i might not have much time to work on these since in addition to three regular classes, i'm doing an 'internship' for units towards graduation.plus i plan on taking a a thesis paper class for winter 2016, and if i get in, i'm gonna be quite busy then as well.

if you want editing privileges just give me an email that you often check regardless if it's your main or side so i can add you to the list of people with editing privilieges.

also if you decide to edit a document, please put edited by -insert your initials, nickname, or first name here- in either the title or first line of document to ensure i can credit you

With respect to missing messages, it is my opinion that not everyone understands how to use the site.  I posted messages on the the website thinking that they would go out via the distribution list.  They didn't. It wasn't until I sent my message and postings via my registered email using the distribution list research-request@lists.nuestrosranchos.org (per Joseph's instructions) that my messages went out. I was doing it wrong and just didn't realize it.
Joseph, thanks again for your help.
While this may not be true for everyone, I hope this helps others.

MARTIN DE TORRES

RESEARCHING MARTIN DE TORRES WHO MARRIED TO JUANA JACINTA DE SANTOS. HAD A SON ALEXANDRO DE TORRES.BORN AROUND 1757 PROBABLY IN MEDIA LUNA JALISCO. I HAVE GONE BACK AS FAR AS FAMILY SEARCH .COM ALLOWS ME. DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS WHERE I CAN GO LOOK FOR THIS INFORMATION. THE REASON I SAY MEDIA LUNA IS BECAUSE UP LEADING UP TO MARTIN DE TORRES EVERY BODY WAS BORN IN MEDIA LUNA. WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP

Geronimo Sanchez de Porras

Following the discussion last week regarding Geronimo Sanchez de Porras (Viejo) and his son, Geronimo Sanchez de Porras (Mozo); I was wondering if anyone had any information on the parentage of El Viejo. I did locate a burial record for Diego Sanchez de Porras which mentions that his executor was Geronimo Sanchez de Porras, his son.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18455-52683-27?cc=1874591&wc…

It also mentions that Diego was Soltero, but I have found various documents stating this when the person was actually widowed.
Thank you,

Ancestors and family of Beltrán de la Cueva

Estimados Miembros, (English below)

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18411-25463-84?cc=1874591&wc…

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18721-7303-34?cc=1874591&wc=…

La línea que propongo entonces va así:
Cap.

Dear Members,

A while back I published a post here http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/22112 which was originally written by Gabriel Agraz García de Alba in "Origen y Desenvolvimiento de la Familia de la Cueva en Tecolotlán", in "Memorias de la Academia Mexicana de Genealogía y Heráldica", Volumen VII, México D.F, 1953, pp. 53-108, which detailed the ancestry of Beltrán Fernández de la Cueva, husband of Tomasina de Velasco, living in Tecolotlán. The parents of Beltran were Diego de la Cueva and Maria de Solís y Ochoa.

There was some debate as to whether the information was reliable (always a conversation worth having). But I had the pleasure of finding the Ordination papers of Andrés de Mora y de la Cueva., son of Diego de Mora and Francisca de la Cueva.
On image 153, found in the Capellanias of 1642 document, but actually written in 1661 we find the ancestry of .

Apozol,Jalpa and Juchipila pre 1800

Hello everyone, can someone please tell me if records ever existed for Apozol, Jalpa and Juchipila, Zac. prior to 1800. If not, did our ancestors have to travel to nearest town like Nochistlan for marriage, baptism etc...
As many of you already now, the records for these three places start about mid 1850's.

I am specifically looking into my Medrano Family, Jose Maria Medrano married to Maria Antonia Perez, the only children I was able to find were:
Feliciano Medrano (born about 1812 in Juchipila and died in 1886 in Jalpa) married to and Romana Macias and Maria Lucia Hernandez.
Pablo Medrano (born about 1817 in Juchipila)married to Maria Felipa Huerta

Both of their sons married and the families went back and forth between these three towns.

I found many Medrano Families in Nochistlan from that era, but I still have to make a connection.

Thank You

Ruben Rojas Delgado

Villa Obregon/Canadas records

I am researching a couple from Villa de Obregon (Canadas) named Ignacio Lomeli and Petra Villalpando.

Petra Villalpando is the daughter of Pedro Villalpando and Maria Guadalupe Casillas. Petra's siblings are Ignacia born in 1918, Bibiana born in 1920, Maria de Jesus born in 1922, Bartola born in 1925, Bacilio born in 1916, Francisco born in 1924, Reyes born in 1923.Petra villalpando Casillas was born in 1912. All these dates are according to the census in 1930.

I was unable to find the Villa Obregon church records online in family search. Are the Viila de Obregon, Jalisco records available online?

Thanks,
R.A. Ricci

Searching for a dispensa

The marriage record for Gabriel de Lomelin to Melchora de los Reyes in 1673 Nochistlan states that they were dispenses. Has anyone seen this dispensa?

Gabriel de Lomelin h.l. Domingo Lomelin and Juana de Mendoza

Thank you

Roots So Deep

Greetings fellow history buffs, researchers and Sherlock Holmes types. I
feel privileged to become a member of this group. I became interested in
genealogy after my mother passed away in 2009 and I realized she was the
last person left from her family line. I know I felt empty and lost without
her and at the same time wondered where our cousins and the rest of our
ancestors. We talked about family when mother was alive, but, I never
really paid attention or really listened. I decided back then I had to find
the answers and perhaps connect with cousins I never knew. I've been
digging for five years now and have found many answers but with the answers
came the mysteries. So interesting how women were molded to think and how
the rules for proper anything were one sided. I spend to much time
researching, so I'm told. I'm like a detective who has to solve a mystery
that just keeps haunting my mind.

My family roots come from the state of Zacatecas and my roots are the Tello
family lineage. San Pedro Ocampo, Melchor Ocampo, Concepcion Del Oro,
Mezquital Del Oro, Bonanza, Cedros are just a few towns and church names
I've found along the trenches. One place I have not found information on is
"Rancho de Los Tellos" where some of my ancestors were born and married.
The men in the family worked the silver mines, so they moved around the
various towns to work. They also lived to the San Luis Potosi and Saltillo,
Coahuila; many were born and died in there. I found myself overwhelmed with
discoveries I never imagined would keep me awake at night. My detective
type mind swells with thoughts and solutions to these mysterious puzzles
called family roots. I know nothing about Mexico and the states my roots
came from. I read about Mexico and try to imagine my ancestors there during
the 1700-1900s. I now see how brave and hard working my ancestors were. I
could never survive those conditions and extremely hard work, what a
spoiled human being I am.

I am Yolanda Kline and hope that I will find more answers with the help of
this great meeting room.
