As some of you may know, I will be doing a presentation on the Guadalajara Dispensas project at the upcoming 3rd Annual Nueva Galicia Genealogical Society Conference in Sacramento. http://www.nuevagalicia.net/

As I prepare the material, I'd like to hear from those NR members who will be in attendance. I'd like to know what YOU want to know about the Dispensas and the current extraction project at www.guadalajaradispensas.com

My goal is to give a general introduction on the Dispensas; what they are and how to access them, and plan to break down a dispensa document bit-by-bit to show what key data can be extracted from it.

I'd like to "open the floor" right now (so to speak) and take questions/comments from my peers here because there may be other concerns that I'm not thinking of at this time and I think we will all benefit from your input. I may be looking at a square, but it's actually an octagon!

Feel free to post your response here at NR. Disclaimer: I am open to suggestions but, due to time constraints, make no promises to incorporate them in the talk. For those of you not attending the NGGS conference, I will have a summary of my presentation available at my blog after the conference.

Hi, I would like to know what the difference was between entierros "humildes" and entierros "de limosna". I have also seen in records, that people actually gave money to the church (fabrica de ? pesos) so that the corpse could stay buried for a couple of years. I have also seen that in the burial records of San Martin Hidalgo of the 1820s, next to the corpse's race (e.g. español, yndio, mulato) the priest would write initials, most notably P. next to yndios, mulatos, and some españoles, and A. or Ad. to españoles. Has anybody encountered these initials before in burial records?

We found information on several Altagracia Escobedos, but not the right

Saludos amigos, he encontrado (tal parece) el inicio de mi árbol genealógico, pero me dice que Joseph Hurtado nacido entre los años 1655 y 1663 en el puesto de la Barrera, jurisdicción del rincón de León y avecinado en la feligresía de Lagos o en Nostanejo cerca de Jacona en las inmediaciones de Unión de San Antonio y radicado en El carrizo de los Hurtado Municipio de Lagos de Moreno y casado con Micaela De Anda Altamirano el 4 de marzo de 1690.

¿Alguien sabe con exactitud la fecha de nacimiento de Joseph Hurtado y el nombre de sus ascendentes?

I have seen several death records from Asientos in the mid 1790s with a clause similar to "se entierro menor en fabrica de quatro pesos seis reales".

Other records are annotated "limosna," which I assume means the person was poor, and was buried without a donation or payment to the Church.

When I try a computer translation of this clause (such as with google), the result makes no sense.

Is this amount a donation, or is this what it cost to be buried by the Church.

I wanted to take the time to introduce myself. My maiden name is Delilah Martinez Navarro. I am researching the following surnames: Navarro, Hurtado (Jalisco); Avila, Delgado, Rodrigues (Zacatecas); Macias, Lopes, Martines, Martinez (Aguascalientes).

In Jalisco I have a Joseph Navarro and Jesus Hurtado both born in 1898 in San Miguel el Alto, Jalisco.

In Zacatecas I have Pedro Delgado and Guadalupe Rodrigues who were married in 1875 in San Judas Tadeo, Villanueva, Zacatecas. Their Daughter Evangelina (Angela) Maria Delgado married Felipe Avila possibly in (1883 at La Asuncion, Teloloapan, Guerrero??). They had a daughter Jesus Avila born in Jalisco 1901. She had 2 siblings Francisca and Salvador. Felipe Avila’s parents are Eugenio Avila and Santos Ydo.

I am looking forward to discovering more ancestors and hope to connect with anyone that is researching the same line. This is a great site and I am happy and grateful to be a member.

Does anybody know how far back in time from wedding date does one have to look for a "dispensa por consanguineidad"? How long could the process take when it was already known that the bride and groom were related in the fourth degree? Was it a matter of several months or of years? Does anybody have a suggestion on how I should look for it?

I am trying to read a death entry to determine if it is indeed my ancestor. It is difficult because of the abbreviations the priest used. Also, the man's wife is not mentioned, which would have confirmed it was the person I am looking for. However, his parents are listed, which would be new information for me.

I am looking for the age, death date and parents and anything else I can find for Don Jose Joaquin Esteban Romero y Chavez. His wife was Maria Antonia Gomez Hurtado de Mendoza. I am guessing he may have been born about 1740 and died between 1785-1788.

I have looked at hundreds (maybe a thousand by now) of marriage dispensations in Guadalajara and can add that the vast majority of them were executed about three to five weeks before the marriage took place.

However, I have seen several dispensas that took place months even years after the marriage. This happened after a witness or family member revealed that the bride and groom shared a blood or affinity relationship--or when other family members married and new information was revealed during THAT pre-marriage investigation. In such instances, the priest had to go back and take statements for a marriage that had already taken place.

I have been trying to find my gg grandfather's Luna line for a very long
time - I finally made a discovery - my ggg grandfather's name was Jose
Nicomedes Luna (born 1814) at the Rancho del Terrero, which is south of
Tepechitlan. To the north is Cicacalco and just north of that is Tlaltenango!

I was able to obtain my ggg grandfather's parents and their parents -- so
off I go....

Esperanza - Chicagoland area

Hello!  I'm having a heck of a time finding a birth and death date for Arcadio Amezcua, son of Jose Apolonio Trinidad Amezcua-Gutierrez and Maria Lorensa Carmen Torres-Lopez..  He and his entire family (parents, siblings, wife and children) were born and raised in Tamazula, Jalisco.  I have found his marriage record to his wife Maria Soledad Ochoa-Espinosa in Oct 1873, which says he was 35 at the time.  That would place him born around 1835... but I can not find any record of his birth or death in the church records.. even though everyone else he is associated with IS there!  Any ideas why I can't find him?  If anyone comes across any documents on him, I would love to see them.
