Strategy for finding the Informacion Matrimonial Calvillo, Ags.

I have a marrige from august 16 1832 in Calvillo, Ags. I have trouble trying to decide how early before to look for the Informacion Matrimonial. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Comment

Announcements (banns) are supposed to be made three consecutive Sundays prior to the wedding, so this suggests at least three weeks prior. However, I've also seen the informacion matrimonial much closer to the wedding.

If a dispensation is needed, it could be months prior.

Thus, I think 6 weeks prior is a good time to start; if you don't find anything, try 2 or 3 months prior to that.

If the informacion matrimonial is not found, it is also possible that it was done in a different parish if one of the partners was not from the parish where the wedding took place.

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone has written to the AGN in MX before with any results? Did you receive a response to your query ?

Thanks!

Earlier this year I e-mailed them asking if they had copies of the documents of the Mexico City Archive Carlos Sigüenza & Góngora and they replied they didn't.

I also went to the AGN in order to see if they had more Mexican microfilms than the LDS (familysearch), but turns out they have the same ones.

DNA Testing

Is there a separate "area," on NR for posting dna test results?

Hello Edward,

The books on DNA testing are outdated and don't do proper comparisons or
explanations. DNA testing is a new field and advances are happening too
rapidly. Learning is done through websites and blogs.

Ancestry.com and Family Finder do autosomal testing. Autosomal testing
looks at the DNA that you inherited from all of your ancestral lines. You
don't inherit autosomal DNA from all of your ancestors but you do inherit
autosomal DNA from all of your ancestors. It can be confusing and hard to
explain. The following site has charts that can somewhat explain what you
are wanting to know http://www.dnainheritance.kahikatea.net/autosomal.html

Family Finder is much better than Ancestry.com because it allows you to see
which chromosome you coincide with your matches. This allows for
triangulation in order to pinpoint which ancestors passed down that segment
of autosomal DNA. Family Finder also tells you how much autosomal DNA you
have in common. Anything less than 5.5 is called IBS Identity by State and
is insignificant.

Ancestry.com is also different than Family Finder which is also different
from 23andme which is also different than Geno 2.0. I prefer using the
Family Finder raw data and running it through the Dodecad Globe13 which
includes Amerindian testing and also has a source database. Only Globe13
and Geno 2.0 inlcude source population info. They are the most transparent
calculators. The names of the ancestral components of Globe13 closely match
those of Gen0 2.0. A program for using the Globe13 calculator is at
http://www.y-str.org/tools/diy-dodecad-wrapper/

You can download all of your Family Finder files by using
http://www.dnagedcom.com/FamilyTreeDNA/default.aspx

Y-DNA helps identify the paternal line and can provide matches on the
paternal line. If you relatives that you don't know their paternal then
they should get a Y-DNA test. The mtDNA is strictly the female line. If you
have relatives for which you can't identify the female line the mtDNA test
might help but since the mtDNA changes so slowly it is hard to identify how
two females are related. It is more for determining if it is Amerindian or
European.

If your relatives get an autosomal test it will help with triangulation.
http://dna-explained.com/2013/06/21/triangulation-for-autosomal-dna/

If you upload your raw Family Finder data to www.gedmatch.com you will be
able to triangulate with others once that feature is put back on the site.
It takes 6 weeks for the file to process so you want to get the file
uploaded as soon as possible.

You should also read the following presentation on autosomal testing
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21841126/DNA.pptx

Hello my name is Edward Arce Luna I'm really new at this DNA testing, but I

some information. I have done DNA testing on ancestry.com I did the
paternal and maternal testing I've also did family Finder DNA testing on
family tree DNA . I would like to get some of my siblings, uncles, aunts,
Tested. I'm not sure which test would benefit me, Would it be the
Paternal DNA or maternal or family finder testing.?Any books or any website
you
Can recommend that would give some basic information on the DNA testing
interpretations?
I have done the DNA testing on ancestry.com. Which is the paternal and
maternal.
I also done some DNA testing on family DNA. Now the family Finder DNA

I just noticed an error in my previous post. I was trying to write it all
too fast. The correction is "You don't inherit autosomal DNA from all of
your ancestors but you do inherit autosomal DNA segments from ancestors
that existed through any of your ancestral lines." I hope that makes more
sense especially with the content of the rest of the post.

Consuelo,

I do have some connections with the Udave family. While they are seemingly not related to me, they did marry into my husband's family the Bargas or Vargas from Teocaltiche but the Udave's I have originated in Villa Hidalgo and then moved to Nochistlan, Zac.

Will you by chance be attending the conference in Sacramento on Sept 14th. Nueva Galicia Genealogcial Society.

You'd get to meet other members with common interests and from the same region and you and I could review and exchange information. There will be two speakers presenting on Nueva Galicia with a focus on our regions. I will contact you off-line.

Subject: [Nuestros Ranchos] As a brand new member...

I'd like to provide a brief introduction of my genealogy background for the membership at Nuestros Ranchos:

I began my mother's patrilineal genealogy research in June of 2010, and have been actively researching and documenting our Udabe ancestors, particularly from the towns of Teocaltiche (1700-1800) and Villa Hidalgo (1800-1930), with an emphasis on Rancho Arroyo Seco, just outside of Villa Hidalgo (formerly known as-Paso de Sotos) in Jalisco.  My mothers's matrilineal lineage derives mostly from Calvillo, Aguascalientes, and possibly from Zacatecas.

I'm eager to find other researchers who might have ties to or any information regarding the following surnames-
Udabe (Udave, Eudave, Udavi, etc.), Esparza, Salas, Serna, Soto, Lopez, Rios, Aguallo, Rubalcava, Penalola, Ornelas, Romo, Reynoso, Rodriguez, Sanches, Arizmendes, Delgado, de la Serda-from the following locations: Teocaltiche, Paso de Sotos, Villa Hidalgo, and Rancho Arroyo Seco, in Jalisco, Mexico.

I'm also researching:
Penalosa, Salas, Martinez, Mondragon, Marin, Bargas, Rubio, Duron, Salasar, Ramirez, Marques, Robalcava-in Calvillo, Aguascalientes, Mexico.  I'm looking for  any information for Pablo Salas and Juana Mondragon, probably married in Aguascalientes, around the timeframe of 1840-1850, and their son, Magdaleno Salas, born about 1851…location unknown…but most likely in Aguascalientes, also.

I believe my mother's Udabe ancestor originated in the Basque areas of Spain, however, I've yet to identify or document any specific ancestral connections across the Atlantic.  I've located and "googled" a small village by the name of Udabe-Basaburua in the Pyrenees Mountains, and have been able to enjoy seeing a 360-degree view of it from the main road through town.  The countryside is quite beautiful and pastoral, from what I can see!

I'm willing to exchange information, and I do my own research and documentation.  I speak very little Spanish, but can read and understand "un poquito"- (especially with the help of online translation sites).  I was born and raised in the United States, and both of my parents (now deceased) spoke Spanish at home…so I'm not totally unfamiliar with the language.

I've followed the Nuestros Ranchos website for several years now-in the public forums and I very recently obtained N.R. membership.  I look forward to corresponding with the various researchers within the N. R. membership.

Sincerely,
Consuelo H. Udave

Hello Jose!

Thank you for the information re: your "jalisco families" link @ RootsWeb.com! I haven't checked it out completely just yet, but in a brief review of half a dozen surnames, I have not found any links...just yet. The bulk of my ancestors begin in Teocaltiche for the time period of 1700-1800. Then, they migrated to the Paso de Sotos area (later renamed Villa Hidalgo), where they remained for most of the next hundred years (at least as far as my research shows). The other side of my matrilineal lineage comes from Aguascalientes, Mexico...mostly the Calvillo area...going back about four generations.

I will review your website more closely for any possible links, but I do thank you for the welcome and web referral!

Parents of Jose Joaquin de Leon

I have been trying for months and searching for my GGGrandfather, Jose Joaquin de Leon
born San Francisco del Rincon, Gto? around 1700? He was married to Sixta Hernandez.

They may or may not be related, since Autlán, Jalisco is a long way from San Francisco del Rincon, Gto (417 km), but I have found three generations of Juan de León in Autlán.

The first was married to Juana Franco

The second Juan de León, son of the of the first, married Juana de Medina 21 Nov 1738 in Autlán. That would put the first Juan de León as born ca.1688
assuming 25 yrs per generation. Here is the image of the marriage https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18522-1079-5?cc=1874591&wc=M….

The third Juan de León died 24 May 1788 in Autlán. He was the son of the second couple. Here is that image. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18531-30756-96?cc=1874591&wc…

I don{t know if it will help, but you never know. I just saw that the second Juan de León was from Guachinango, Jalisco which is a little closer toSan Francisco del Rincon (357 km).

Good luck!

Your record must be in film 634739, Unión de Tula, Nuestra Señora del Rosario, "Bautismos 1828,1832-1850". Chances are the film also includes somewhere some marriages from 1827, even if it is not indicated in the description, you just have to go over the roll page by page.
If you go to image 100, for example, you will find baptisms from 1818, and on image 150 form 1822. These don't correspond to the original description of the roll. By image 250 you get to marriages from 1823, so your record must be a little further ahead.

Your query is somewhat vague.

I assume what you are saying is that you have found a reference for an extracted church record, but are having trouble finding the original.

The extracted records almost, but not always, give you the film number, for the record. The posted films often, but again not always, start with the film number. This will tell you if you are looking at the right film.

If the posted films do not have the number, then look up the film number in the FHL catalog, This will identify the film by the period covered so you can go to the right group of records at the website.

After than, the records should be in chronological order. That is usually true, but note that auxilliary chapels may have their records separate from the main parish records, often just a group at the end of each month. If the volume of records is in poor condition, the pages may be out of order.

Some of the apparently extracted records are actually from information submitted by individuals. These can be problematic. In some cases I have been able to find the original, in others, I have not.

Baptisms and marriages are sometimes in the same volume, but still usually separated (eg, first part is baptisms, followed by marriages).

In rare cases, there are errors in the extracted data. This complicates the search.

Good luck in you search.

Do you mean you can't get any results when you do the inquiry or are you just hitting dead ends? If it is lack of inquiry results it may be that you typed in the country: mexico. Try just typing "M" and when you see a list of countries select "Mexico." It has to be capitalized. I'm not sure why, but this works for me.

I don't know if this is related, but "Who Do You Think You Are?" started again. Last season, I often had problems with ancestry.com and familysearch.org during peak computer time so I think it may have something to do with high traffic to those sites. By 2:00 am, glitches were no longer there. I like the show and I like that it may spark interest in one's family history, but I don't like that it strains the websites.

Recording Racial Demographics in the 1800s

Hi, everyone!
I'm new here at Nuestros Ranchos and want to say thank you to everyone for sharing what you have. In just a few short weeks, I have learned tons and tons about my ancestry!!!

Comments

Comment

Hello, what a small world. I have also researched the family records of Zacoalco and have noticed the "v" and "Y"'s you mention. In Zacoalco this is more often seen starting around the second half of the 19th century. Before that, the parish priests used the usual racial terms as in other parishes: espanol, indio, mestizo, mulato, coyote, etc. Comparing my ancestors in Zacoalco, I have noticed that vecino encompasses all castes and indio, well just indio, native. At the turn of the 20th century, they stopped using those terms.

I agree that you shouldn't count these terms as actual proof of the race of our ancestors. They usually referred to physical appearance and sometimes, social status. One example, my 4th great grandfather Domingo Apodaca was married as a mestizo, (half espanol half indio) His wife was described as espanola, and their children became espanoles, except for one who was described mulato! As for Domingo, I found his death certificate and guess what, he was no longer a mestizo, but espanol! Anyways, use those terms as possible clues, but not as factual evidence.

By the way, what families are you researching in Zacoalco? I grew up in Zacoalco and many of my family lines are in Zacoalco and nearby Santa Catarina. Especifically in Zacoalco, I have the surnames Martinez, Rodriguez, Frias, Aguilar, Castro, and way back, Gonzales de la Campa. Check my family tree in the files section and see if anything sounds familiar.

Steve in NC

Comment

Hello, Steve,

Yes I have seen many of your ancestors in the indexes!!!

Thank you very much for replying. My great-grandfather was listed as yndio when born, but as not indigenous when married, or something like that. I understand now how confusing and inaccurate the whole process was. I was especially curious because once they immigrated to the United States, I'll bet it was up to the immigrant to identify ethnicity. I've seen old U.S. censuses that list another great-grandfather as Indian, then 10 years later Mexican for race.

Okay, now back to your family tree. I am in dire need of my link to Frias! My g-g-g grandmother was Cristina Frias, and I can't find records on her anywhere. I only got her name as being the grandmother listed in my great-grandmother's birth, or something like that.

Okay, I'll check your family tree, and hopefully can find something!

Thanks again,

Natalie

on the interaccila marriage legality, that depended on both parties economic classes, and parental approval. interracial marriage wasn't illegal per say, but if the wealthier parties's parents didn't want the marriage to happen, they can elgally prevent the marriage usually, since parental approval played a big role in marriages.

anyways you can't always rely on the racial categorizations in mexican records. they aren't always accurate.

Barry Cunliffe, Peter Heather and Herwig Wolfram all agree that the "Visigoths" were a confederation of many tribes and nations with a Germanic ruling elite, they were not a homogeneous group. The nations that made up the "Visigothic" hordes at the time of the great migrations out of the Balkans were Alans, Sarmatians, Dacians and Thracians, Carpi and a Greek element as well as run away slaves of varying ethnicity. In essences, anyone who threw in their lot with them and was opposed to Roman rule was considered a "Visigoth".

The Germanic people who made up the Visigothic nation were the Tervingi and Greuthungi, and they were in the minority at the time these people entered Gaul and Iberia. The hordes were a heterogeneous nation of nations.

This study also seems to neglect the Germanic confederations who proceeded the Goths such as the Suevi and Vandals, the former seem a good candidate for this marker as well.

We are too quick to put a tribal label on DNA markers. Yes, the "I" marker is common to "Nordic"peoples, but it is also found in the Balkans ( I-M423). I-M26 is also found among the Basques, who never mingled with nor were conquered by the Visigoths.

I agree that tribal labels should not be placed on haplogroups since there
is no way to know for sure how and when they arrived in Iberia. It is nice
to read that there are others that understand this. Haplogroup I is
estimated to be about 25,000 years old which by far predates any of the
Germanic cultures. A person of that haplogroup could have made it into
Iberia any time in those past 25,000 years speaking any of many languages
and part of any of many cultures. Even many subclades, not only those of
Haplogroup I, transcend ethnic and language groups and territories labeled
as belonging only to a certain group. The advent of farming and the bronze
age brought about a massive change in Europe and it could have been then
that the haplogroup made it into Iberia.

There is new evidence that there was trade between Iberia, Sardinia,
Austria, and Scandinavia long before the Visigoths. Haplogroup I could have
entered Iberia during the Nordic Bronze Age which was c. 1700–500 BC.

*The first part of this research published previously proved without doubt
that the metals dated to the Nordic Bronze Age found in Sweden were not
smelted from the local copper ores. In this second part we present a
detailed interpretation of these analytical data with the aim to identify
the ore sources from which these metals originated. The interpretation of
lead isotope and chemical data of 71 Swedish Bronze Age metals is based on
the direct comparisons between the lead isotope data and geochemistry of
ore deposits that are known to have produced copper in the Bronze Age. The
presented interpretations of chemical and lead isotope analyses of Swedish
metals dated to the Nordic Bronze Age are surprising and bring some
information not known from previous work. Apart from a steady supply of
copper from the Alpine ores in the North Tyrol, the main sources of copper
seem to be ores from the Iberian Peninsula and Sardinia. Thus from the
results presented here a new complex picture emerges of possible
connectivities and flows in the Bronze Age between Scandinavia and Europe .*

Huizares de Valparaíso

I have reached a dead end in my research on the Huizares of Tototiche which ends with a couple who lived in Valparaíso in the late 1700s.

The correct last name would be spelled, "Huizar" as there are a lot of people with that last name in Valparaiso and Huejuquilla.

But in the archives sometimes the recorder would mispell the name and could spell it "Guizar" like they would spell Valparaiso as "Balparaiso"

Have you tried the online archives:

Saludos,

Bill

Hi Sophia,

I checked my database and could not find a Diego Macías Valadez married to Toribia Dávila in the late 1700s-1850 time period. Unfortunately, I cannot offer you any help because by that time the Macías Valadez had multiplied and scattered throughout much of Jalisco, Zacatecas and Aguascalientes. Sorry.

Felipe,

The link is as follows:

Estimado Bill,

Cordial Saludo y Agradecimento antemano,
