Jerez, Zacatecas. La Inmaculada

Susana and Arturo,

Read my message about ADABI. How about contacting that group and ask
them to consider these records for a project?

Question: Mexican army records from Zacatecas

Hello all,

Let me know if you can help. I recently learned that
my great-great grandfather served in the Mexican
cavalry in Zacatecas, perhaps around Tlaltenango,
although there might be some connection to Torreon,
Coahuila as well.

His name was Pedro Pineda, and he was probably born
between 1844 and 1864, as his son, my
great-grandfather Nicanor Pineda was born in 1884. Any
help would be appreciated...as of now, I don't really
know anything more about him, aside from the fact that
he had a wife named Pioquinta ____dosa. Also, does any
one know if there were any military engagements in
Zacatecas around this time that involved the cavalry?

Joseph,

You are so funny!  (Humorous, I mean).  However, I don't think
that cabezones, narizones, etc applies only to Tapatios.  My mother, who
was from New Mexico called me pendeja (stupid), cabezona (stubborn), etc. even
though I have very tiny features (many people think I am Asian, and I look like
my father who was tiny also).  My husband, on the other hand, is a typical
Tapatio (tall, skinny---6 feet and 165 pounds, Roman nosed, bald, white,
freckled, with a receded chin, and small ears that stick out).  So he is a
narizon, orejon, flaco, and his mother used to call him "demonio".  I asked
him if he had ever heard the term "hijo de V-chi" and he said no.  His
mother did call him tarugo, which he says means "knucklehead".  My father
used to tell me "callese el osico" even though he knew only animals have osicos,
we have bocas.

What are some examples of the peculiarities of speech in Jalisco?

Wow!
That's quite a price-hike!  Why so much?  Has anyone ever asked if
they are going to offer online request where we could request films online,
request the FHC we'd like the films sent and pay with a credit card, all
online?  Not that my FHC's are far, but it seems like a worth while
alternative.  Also, who could I send this suggestion to?

Yes, they have also
done this at my local
Family History Center located in
Covina, California.  The prices
went up from $3.75 to $5.50 and it was effective as of
January 1,
2006
.  I was rather
shocked at this price hike.  It’ll definitely put a damper on my film
orders.

FYI: LDS update

Rosalinda I was asking my FHC director today about that price increase
going into effect on the 15th and she said that is correct but she
understood it was for films that were send out on or after the 15th so
even if you order today the new price will effect those films as well.
And a related comment about the ScanStone project (thanks Josie for
your article):

Subject: [FHCNET] Digitization - The Scanstone Project

At the FGS convention, I believe, it was announced that the
"Scanstone Project was underway.

It is designed as hardware/software to improve the output  and
throughput of the Granite Mountain Records Vault to convert our
microfilm collection to digital images.

Using it, a roll of microfilm is scanned in 6 minutes, then
rescanned in another 6 minutes.

Then these are audited in about 4 minutes, then converted to
digital images and compressed. This takes another 7-8 minutes. So a
roll of microfilm is completely converted within ½ hour.

Hi group--

I have just
returned from my local Family History Center.  Today the director told me
that he has been informed of a price increase for the ordering of films.
The cost will go up to $5.75 per film to order the first time, and for each
renewal after that will cost $5.75, until the film becomes
indefinite.  The price change goes into effect on January 15th, so if you
have any films to order, or if you need to renew films, do so soon.

Colotlán (Northern Jalisco).
Colotlán can be found in Jalisco's northerly "Three-Fingers" boundary
area with Zacatecas. This heavily wooded section of the Sierra Madre
Occidental remained beyond Spanish control until after the end of the
Chichimeca War. It is believed that Indians of Cazcan and Tepecanos
origin lived in this area. However, this zone became

it must be so, Maria de Lourdes was "the ojos tapatios" during the 1970´s.    Thanks

hi Rosalinda, there is a ranchero singer lady called Maria De Lourdes, mexican, her eyes was the window opener for a tv show "Noches Tapatias". Ojos tapatios are large, brown, almond shape, large eyelashes, Guadalajara Jal is named after Guadalajara Spain, were the moors ruled, so ojos tapatios decend from the moor´s eyes. Another kind of ojos tapatios are the same but green instead of
brown, or blue. Or remember the song
