Individual v. Digest

I have been sending a lot of info to the group and will continue to do
so as long as I think its relevant to our research. At the same time I
absolutely dislike having a cluttered inbox so if any of you would like
to change from "Individual Messages" to the "Digest" mode of
subscription please do (or just tell me and I'll switch you myself). The
difference is that instead of getting each individual message at the
time the sender sends it you'll get one message daily with all the
discussion that took place that day in one larger message. The latter
makes it easier to handle an active group. . .then again we quite
haven't gotten there but I'm thinking of asking on the Jalisco and
Zacatecas group is anyone is doing Research in Northern Jalisco or
Southern Zacatecas. (I can't help but believe that is we get 10-20
researchers all working in the same area that good things won't come of it).

Changanga 1817 Census

Joseph,
Thanks again for those census records. I printed them all and found
even more names that were already in my database!
To answer your question about getting the tilde to stay...you have to
enter unicode characters. You accomplish this by pressing and
holding down the Alt key and enter (on the numeric pad with the Num
Lock key on) 164 then release the Alt key. There are other codes for
accented vowels, such as, Alt+160 for á, Alt+161 for í, Alt+130 for
é, etc.

Partnering with The National Library of Spain, The Biblioteca Columbina y
Capitular of Seville, the Library of Congress has developed this fine
collection of primary and secondary historical documents that explore the
complex and multifaceted history of Spanish expansion into North America
from Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, and across most of what is now the
modern-day American Southwest all the way north to Alaska. The site contains
digital versions of numerous texts, maps, manuscripts, and first-hand
accounts composed by different individuals. Some of the highlights include
"La Florida del Inca," which is an account of the Hernando de Soto
expedition through Florida and the southeastern part of North America, along
with the "Notes of a Military Reconnoissance from Fort Leavenworth to San

Diccionario Geografico: Thanks!

WOW!!!

what a great link. This needs to go into the Links page of the Ranchos group.
If you get there first can you put it in. What a great resource. Thanks.

So many of my Puentes relatives (their branches) are lost and on this I found
5 Ranchos in other parts of Mexico that are called "Puentes." Hey you never
know but many generations ago some of my Puentes might have moved to these
places and established a Rancho named after them. I'll have to check this
out later.

Maria thanks for this contribution.

The above link takes you to a digitized version of "Diccionario
Geográfico, Histórico y Biográfico de los Estados Unidos
Mexicanos"
by Antonio García Cubas

It's fully searchable and I have found it very useful.

Changanga 1817 Census

Maria said:

Hi Joseph,
Thanks for uploading those 1817 census images. I found my ancestors
Domingo Puentes and Rosalia Diaz on page 3 of the Changanga census.
I also found some of their married children.
I was curious, did you print selected pages off that film?

[[[[[[yes when I saw Domingo and Francisca Puentes along with your Rosalia I knew they belonged to you (or you to them). I was in a big time rush that day since I was actually on duty as a volunteer at the family history center I frequent, but it was a slow day and I had time to do some research. There is a lot more info on that film and I'd encourage you to order it. I've put the Film number at the top of the page. And like I said in my previous post there are like 4 or 5 films with Padrones for the Huejucar area. But I have a question. Is the Changanga area close to Huejucar? I couldn't find it on my map]]]]]]]]]]]]]]

 Have you
found any common ancestors from the reports that I uploaded to the
ranchos website?

Padrones/Hunting For the Spain Link

Joseph:  thank you for replying to my e-mail.  I'll try
some of those avenues for
searching for Martin Del Campo in Spain.  I have information
on Martin Del Campo lineage,
but it is from Steven Hernandez.  I'll have to check with
Steven to see if it is
okay to post his genealogy work.  He has done extensive
genealogical work in the
Tepatitlan area.  I am searching now on the Navarro side
of my family.  What I have
found out is that the people from this area usually married
3rd-4th cousins (it was to
keep the blood of the Spanish pure)  I have found
many dispensations in my family
.

Thanks again Joseph.

Padrones/Hunting For the Spain Link

Hello Roberta,

Welcome to the group. Speaking only for myself I'm a newcomer to Genealogy
just having opened my eyes to its wonders back in August of 2002. But since
then its been a wild and wooly ride and it continues to be. I've met your
primo Steve Hernandez on the phone a couple of months ago. It would be my
dream if he would consider joining this group and taking us all under his
wing in our journey's. He has a wealth of information and he'd be a great
addition to the groups expertise.

You are the first person in this small community that is doing research in
Tepatitlan (is that close to San Juan de Los Lagos--the area I seem to recall
Steve said he was researching)? Though I understand that we have some research
going on in the Lagos de Moreno area that is not far from San Juan de Los
Lagos.

I really don't know exactly where to find more info but if it were me doing
this search I might try to find info on those individuals that were on the
ships that came from Spain. I know

But which Francisco Muro?

Carol Turner said:

I've taken a look at the 1817 census records and I'm
still in total amazement but this new found information. This leaves
me to believe this is a definite connection with our Muro's. In
looking at the ages of Vital Del Muro age 55 and my Francisco Muro
age 66, I would have to say they would be brothers our great-
grandpa's.

[[[[[[[Joseph said: I'm actually hunting for Jose Cosme's tie into to
your Francisco or Juan.
I believe Vital is important also but I haven't been able to make the
relationship. I might
have more information that I haven't mentally processed yet but at this
time the best I've
come up with is that Vital was a padrino for Vbaldo Muro (see the newly
added file called "Vital

PadrinoForUbaldoMuro").

Jose Pio is on your Vital's list and I believe Pio was on
Reynaldo's list. But to see my Francisco Xavier and my other
grandfather Jose Eusbio in the census with their family was great! I
would like to ask my dad to join this group, he will be

Padrones

Dear Joseph:

Hi! my name is Roberta Romero and I live in Albuquerque, NM.
The area where my great-grandfather/grandmother lived was
Tepatitlan, Jalisco.
I
believe they were from Rancho Presa de Gomez.
Let me know if you have
any information on this area.   My
ggfather/mother's names are  Epifanio Martin and
Maria Jesus Navarro.  Epifanio
Martin is from the "Martin Del Campo" family.
We have traced that line all the
way to 1600 Spain.
Capitan Lazaro Martin Del Campo was from Revilla del Campo,
Spain.
I
was lucky enough to find Steve Hernandez in California who is my primo and he
had
all the genealogy work completed.  Lazaro Martin Del Campo
married Maria Lopez
De La Cruz in Guadalajara in 1637.  Let me know
where I can find more information about him.
Thanks!
