DNA Testing

Cool about your brother. I wish I knew him better as all that computer
stuff sounds great. Anyway mandale un que tal from me.

as for the procedure its very painless. Some morning you don't eat or
drink and immediately take this scraper and vigoriously scrape the
inside of your cheek. After about a minute you take the "residue"
that's on the scraper and insert the tip and all in the collection vial
and push and the whole tip gets injected into the solution. You cap it
and wait a few hours and do it again making sure you haven't eaten for
an hour or so before the other collection. Details are on the website
http://www.familytreedna.com/ they have a nice set of tutorial videos
and give info on the male/female testing question.

and yes I'll let you all know what my results are,

DNA Testing

well yes I am interested if I have any Jewish blood in me. but mainly
I'm wanting to see if I might be related to others in the FamilyTreeDNA
Mexican Surname project or to anyone in their database in general. I
also have strong suspicions I'm related to a few people in the group
and would love it if they were to join the project so we'd know for
sure and maybe it would motivate us in how we persue our research.

I'm also wanting to get several of my relatives to take the test just
to establish our genes for future generations to compare to.

My whole thing about this genealogy "thing" is to do as much work as I
can before I die. I want to leave things as "tidy" as I can so someone
coming after me 10 generations from now will be able to pick up and
start from where I left off. I figure it can't hurt to leave as many
organized clues and "leads to further info" as possible.

How exciting, this DNA testing.  As a Villarreal, I have been following Danny's research for a long time.  I happen to know Ed Villarreal, and have not seen him for over 20 years.  You guys helped me get in touch with him again.

DNA Testing

Joseph,

What are you hoping to find?  Any idea?  My mother and uncle (her bother) had DNA testing done and the results is that they have European Jewish genes.  My mother's family tree goes thru Mexico, Spain, France and Germany.

Needless to say, it was an eye opener.  It also shed some light in many areas, like customs, receipts, and family oral stories.  Currently, I am researching Sephardi traditions.  So far, I have found many similarities.

Please keep us inform with your results.

Just wanted to share this message sent to me by George Gause on DNA testing. It is so interesting that connections were made and now they are striving to make the paper connection. DNA Testing

Hello
Joseph,
Please keep us up to date on your
results.  I've been interested in this myself, but I had thought that it
could only be done with samples from a male member of the family.  I
had been working on my brother to do this.  He's a criminalist and has
access to computer software that tests DNA for solving crimes, etc.,  As a
test, he and other co-workers ran DNA on their blood samples--I'm sure it
wasn't as detailed as this project.  The results concluded that he had DNA
that was consistant with being descended from two individuals who had some
similar DNA.  He and the only other Hispanic had the same results.
:)  He was told that this was common in small towns.  Of course by
then, I had already connected some of my lines.  Interesting, huh?  I
find the Jewish link interesting too being that I have a Perez
line.
Could you give us more info on
the procedure?
Thanks, Irma

Villarreal DNA Testing Match

As
you know the
Villarreal DNA project which is part of the Mexican Dna Project has had
some
success. Danny Villarreal from
Harlingen
Texas
and Ed Villarreal who lives in
Chicago
have come up as exact genetic matches. This
means that we have a same common ancestor. I think the common ancestor
is Diego
de Villarreal my 9th great grandfather who was born in 1601. We are
working at
tracing Ed's family tree and are within one generation away from

SHHAR Website

I just wanted, to let you all know that the
SHHAR group, just updated their website.  They publish the "Somos Primos"
newsletter.
