here is another one for Jerez, Zacatecas. http://www.jerez.com.mx/
I'm sure some of you all have other websites for the towns you are
researching.
Thanks Steve Apodaca for the motivation to do this, Joseph
okay I've got all the stuff that was in the Aah-ther folder transferred over to the Ranchos2 files area. You'll find a link to the Ranchos2 files area in the links area. Yahoo only allows me to subscribe 10 members per day so by the end of the week I should have all of us moved onto the list. I'd rather do it this way so I won't get confused. . .it doesn't take much. anyway this really looks like the best way as we now have very much room for new or updated genealogies. I guess this should provide a lot of motivation. . .right? Joseph
Inspired by Maria Cortez and others I've added info on Copywrite Law to
the groups description and the first file in the files area.
Maria did the research and maybe later she can send a message to the
group outlining her findings on how our work is "already" copywrite
protected.
thanks Maria, joseph

Hello, Janet. I remember you from a message board in Genealogy.com . Unfortunately, we found out that there are no close matches in our family tree. Something interesting, I noticed, by looking at message boards, that there are a lot, and I mean A LOT, of Curiel's in the area of Atenguillo-Guachinango-Mascota. You know, with all the people researching Curiel ancestors from Atenguillo and close villages we can create a new group exclusive for this surname in this area. That reminds me. Joseph, is it ok to invite another genealogist to this group? I am very sure that he is serious about his research. And yes, he is probably a distant Curiel primo. --- In ranchos@yahoogroups.com, "Janet Iglesias"wrote: > Hello Steve: > > 1. My research is focused more on my father's side . . . Hello, possible primo. I will have this is the Cervantes family that I have on my file. Marcelo Cervantes, married Maria Salazar before 1821. So far, I have verified four relatives. I have found others on the IGI, but I don't put them on my file until I see with my own eyes the actual microfilm or document where they are described. The children on my file are: Cruz Cervantes born aroun 1821 in Los Pozos and married with Maria Rita Apodaca, Maria Guadalupe Cervantes born around 1825 in San Marcos and married with Nemecio Apodaca, Ysidro Cervantes, born around 1832 in San Marcos and married with Martina Gil, and Higinia Cervantes born around 1846 and never married according to her death certificate from 1916. As soon as I find some free time, I will order some microfilms to find the baptim documents of the Cervantes kids. I approximated their birth date from their marriage or death records. By the way, Angel, Zacoalco is actually a big municipio. There are about 25,000
we are running out of room in the File area for storing the genealogies.
We are allowed 20,000 kb and are currently using 14,500 kb. We have a
little room to go but want to discuss this problem with you all.
I have a website at usgenealogy.net and the site owner said that I could
start up another webpage just for the group. We could use the page just
to post genealogies, but it wouldn't be private like the Yahoo site. But
it would be private in that only members would know the address. Well I
guess that's really not private as someone could just wander into the
site and look at everyone's genealogy. Or some future disgruntled member
could go and post the webpages address all over the internet.

Yes, I definitely would
like to keep our genealogies private. I would hate to see our hard work show up in someone's published work without our permission & knowledge. We've all worked too hard to see it all go public. How does My Family.com
work? Although I like the keeping our genealogies in Ranchos 1 and all other info in Ranchos 2 idea better. My ever-humble opinion. Since when has
a Jaliciense ever been humble? Irma

I dont have any additional suggestions, but what ever you all decide on will

I'm going to work on a Ranchos2 because I'm most familiar with how to do
that. The myFamily sounds good, but me being familiar with Yahoo gave
that option the nudge. I'm hoping it will be as simple as putting info
into the Ranchos2 file area and linking to it in the Ranchos1 Links area.
Here's what I need from everyone. In about 1 week I'm going to have the
new group up and running. I'm then going to subscribe everyone to that
group.
Soooo that means that if you take acception to me doing this you need to
tell me. Just a simple, "don't subscribe me to the Ranchos2 group" reply
will do.
thanks, joseph
ps: this is not written in stone yet so if there are more options that
people want to voice I'm still looking for ideas. If we don't use them
now we might in the future.

Your idea sounds quite good. I really don't think it would be too much of a hassle to have to register to the other site. We should keep our private genealogies right here in Ranchos (1) and put other files and messages in Ranchos2. But having the other site sounds like a perfectly good idea. Steven H.

An option could be to use MyFamily.com. It is private
and secure. Individuals must be registered as members
and must have a userid and password to access the
information. You have access to 5MB of storage for
free. You can also increase your storage to 105MB for
a fee of $19.95 per year. More storage is available
for more money.

We could start a second YahooGroup called Ranchos2 and use the 20,000kb
of the files in that group to store genealogies but then everyone would
need to be subscribed to that group as well. . .a bit of a hassle but
not to hard to
Primo, My great great grandfather Jose Manuel Cervantes married Juana Maria Gonzales in 1835 in Zocoalco de Torres. The marriage record shows the parents of Jose Manuel Cervantes as Rafael Cervantes and Marcelina Diaz. I should have looked at the marriage closer and see what village they were from. I also have a Seja line in Zacoalco de Torres. Have you come across any Sejas in your genealogy? By the way I am also in my 20's. I am three years older then you. I thought I was the youngest guy, I guess you beat me. Well I will consider you a primo. The municipio of Zacoalco de Torres can't be that big. I bet we are related for sure. My name is Alice Wissing and I'm introducing

Hello Steve:
1. My research is focused more on my father's
side . . . Iglesias Family Tree from the state of Jalisco. The Iglesias family are originally from the little towns of Guachinango, Atenguillo, and Ameca. I noticed that you have Curiel as one of your surnames. My Iglesias family members married a lot of Curiel's . . . just interested to see if there is a connection. 2. I'm located in Southern California . . .
I'm not sure if you have any family members down here that are Tapia but I sure do know some. . . I want to say that they are from Jalisco . . . They are very tall and light skinned. 3. I also know an Apodaca
family. Janet
