These are great questions!  Some of my questions are:

The City of Colotlan was segregated Spanish/Native
Indians, when did the segregation end?  I noticed our
family started to mix with the Indios in the early to
mid-1800's.  

What small battles took place near and around the
city?

What type of life did women have to endure during the
late 1700's, early 1800's in regards to family,
survival, work?

What type of education was provided during the 1800's?

What is the most significant tragedy that stands out
in Colotlan's history as well as a joyous occasion
that that will always be remembered or stand out in
history?

Well I could keep going with many questions but then
the interview would go on for two days!

I was browsing thru the internet and something of interes appears. 
Some e-mail I.D. and Rancho de Los Cuervos, names of Laguna Grande 
and Tepetongo, Arroyo Seco. Hope it helps.

We have the De La Torre connection but I don't recognize Rancho los 
Cuervos. What are a few De La Torre names in you family? I have 
Sostenes, Pedro, Jesus, Pascual.
That is Great-Great grandfather, Great grandfather, Grandfather and 
Father (Pascual De La Torre). Let me know if any of these names 
sound familiar to you. they were from La Laguna Grande in Zacatecas

P.S. I have read in a couple of places that it is suspected that 
Abraham Lincoln was a Melungeon... I will let you all look up that as 
it is too hard to explain here but needless to say a person "of 
color".

The first enlightened leader of the are which we are all researching, 
Miguel de Caldera, was one of the first Mestizos in Mexico.  He 
encouraged and was trusted by the Spanish Crown and Novo-Spanish 
(Mexican) vice-roy to take indigenous peoples (Tlaxcaltecs) into 
the "chichimeca" as a means of pacifying and normalizing relations 
with the Caxacanes, Zacatecos, Guachichiles, etc.

He was very successful and I am pretty certain he was brown.  I am 
now researching Afro-Mexican history and it is amazing to see that so 
many of the leaders of the Mexican independence such as Vicente 
Guerrero and even Pancho Villa were of African descent... not to 
mention that Victoriano Huerta was Huichol and Benito Juarez was 
Zapotec.  I think that as much prejudice as there was back then, the 
demographic collapse brought about by Eastern Hemisphere diseases 
made it necessary for anybosy to appreciate a bright, hard-working 
person and those exemplary people who were willing to work did well 
for

Actually, you never lose any of your ancestor's
traits.  You are a composite of everyone that came
before you.  Yes, some traits are more predominate
than others.  I'm no exception; my brother's kids all
came out with blond hair and blue eyes while mine came
out with dark eyes and dark hair.  My brother is fair
and I'm dark (just like my grandmother).  In fact,
people use to ask if we were related.

Hey, Emile, some mestizos from Jerez held predominate
positions in Zacactecas! Two of our Gracia de la
Cadena family members were governors (Francisco Garcia
Salinas and Trinidad Garcia de la Cadena) of
Zacatecas, and many recent Duartes, Gracias, Tovars,
and Sanchezs are doctors, lawyers, writers, and
successful business men throughout Zacatecas.  But
yes, light skin Mexicans do have an aveage over those
of dark skin, just like in this country.

I agree with you Alicia...

My fathers' cousin Angel Ramirez, and his wife Katy,
gave birth in the 50's to Maria and Johnny Ramirez.
The young girl eventually grew to a height of 5'5",
brown eyes, and long beautiful black hair. Her twin
brother growth was cut shot, just under 4 feet, green
eyes, and "what" a carrot top he sported. It took a
while to figure that one. No one thought they were
siblings. I believe many people do not understand what
they are really asking, assuming that it is just a
matter of people having similar physical appearance.
However, since physical appearance is influenced by
environmental factors, and not just genetics, people
can actually look very differently.

I agree with you Alicia;

My father's cousin, and his wife, had a set of you
can't always tell by looking fraternal twins. The girl
grew up normal, tall, slim, brown eyes with long black
beatiful hair. The boy growth however was cut short,
height under four feet, green eyes, and  bright red
"carrot top" hair. They couldn't figure that one.

I feel some people do not understand what they are
really asking, assuming that it is just a matter of
having similar physical appearance. Sometimes physical
appearance is influenced by environmental factors and
not just genetics.

You're welcome, Alicia...and I don't know about the ancestors of the couple I mentioned.  I simply wondered whether or not you know them.

Thanks for that information regarding the ''Ranchos Los Cuervos.'' That gives me something to go on until this Wednesday when I review the films that have just arrived at my Fremont FHC for the marriage of Prudencio de Olmos and Juana de Jauregui in Nochistlan Zac in the year 1857.
 
Unfortunately I don't know Bernie or Esther Olmos, do you know where their descendants came from?

I don't see why not as the Cathedral is very close to where the 
meeting will be.  I'm just not sure how long the relics will be 
there.  I guess we can call the Cathedral prior to going.

No, I don't have the surname Romo in my lines.  It is my husband's ancestors, the Garcias, who are light skinned, tall, light haired, and hazel-eyed or blue eyed Tapatios from Jalisco.  The photo of the saint in the article for which I sent a link bears a striking resemblance to my husband, his father, and his great-grandmother, Marciana Cervantes.  I have traced some of the Garcias who married into the Calzada family that were from Rincon de Romos.  My husband's gggg-grandfather

The Cathedral in down town Sacramento has just been refurbished and
from what I understand some of Toribio Romo's ancestor's requested
some relics from Guadalajara.

This is what my sister and aunt told me at Thanksgiving.  I guess
there are a lot of Romo's here in Sacramento and they requested that
one of his bones be sent from Guadalajara to  the Cathedral.  I guess
they were supposed to have a mass for Santo Toribio Romo this past
Sunday at the Cathedral and display some old relics.
