If you can get it in your area, try to watch a novela called 'Alborada". It's a historical

Elvira,
I am interested in your historical novel and other historical CDs. What source do you use to
purchase these items? I could not find "Alborada" on Amazon or Libros Latinos.
Thanks,
Ed

As Joseph, mentioned in this email, I am in the process, of updating my Mexican Family History Resoucre disk. There were several problems, with the prior version, such as links not working and a few other things. These are being corrected, also I am removing lots, of the material, that was written by others, and replacing it, with material that I have written myself. The reason, that I am doing this, is because, I am in the procress, of trying to get the disc, approved for use in the FHL in Salt Lake. For those, who would like a copy of the new version. It will be available, in about a week. The cost is $10.00, that is to cover, cost of producing the disc and shipping. Jonathan Also, Those of you who have received, the prior version. Could you please send a email, to the group saying what you have thought about the disc. the disc is packed with information. lots of things available and those |

I have read lots, of messages about oral histories, here on Ranchos. I just wanted to say, record those histories. So that they are not lost, to the future generations. I say this, because recently I took, on some new clients, whose ancestry is about 80% comanche indians. With a few ancestors, who where Mexican or spanish captives, that were captured and raised by the comanches, during the early 1800's. All that they have to work with, is oral histories. The comanches did not have a written language, until they were bought, into the reservations. And when a person dies, they don't speak the person's name again. So, like I said. Record your oral histories, so that you posterity, can know them, and can get to know you. Jonathan

People seldom went by their given name, Concepcion became Chon..
Refugio became Cuko or Cuka, Maria de la Lus became Lucha.. my
grandfather was Epitacio, they called him Pancho. My father is
Aniceto
but they call him Chet... Somehow when they added Don or Dona before
the name it became even more special whatever it was... instant
respect!

Agapito (Augapito) ought to be really glad he bears that
name! Somebody loved him! That only means Loved One (from agape, the word for real love in the Greek language. Zenobio= Cenobio(a)
Senobio(a)= Zenon=Cenon(a)=Senon(a) a variation of the
same name which roughly translated means devoted to Zeus. Also spelled Xenon, Xenona. I have those and plenty
of Aurelios and Aurelianos in my family. Elvira

Actually, they sound more like
Mexicans. If you can get it in your area, try to
watch a novela called 'Alborada". It's a historical novel about Mexico during the early 1800s. It'll give you a good idea of Mexico during that time. There are other historical novelas about Mexico you can either get on tape or CD. It covers costuming, vanilla plantations, duelos,
thieves, people with titles, religious orders, Jewish relations, Catholic Church, commerce with central America, la Nao de la China, ports of call, commerce with other latinamerican countries (ties were closer than we think), cochinilla, horses, carruajes, swordfighting, births (how registrations were not aways true), legitimate and illegitimate, morals, etc. Regarding hermanito, manito: this terminology is
found throughout the Spanish speaking world because of the priests telling the new converts that they were hermanitos, so is that particular pronounciation of acequia in just the way |

Thanks! Yes, I know where my name derives from, but it's just not the same because everyone calls me "Peggy Sue" "Peggy Lou", or "Peggy Ann".... But, I didn't know that a Margarita was a daisy! I love that flower...it looks so happy and friendly. Thanks for the kind words! Again, Merry Christmas everyone!!!!!! > > From: Mary Allen> Date: 2005/12/22 Thu PM 06:21:14 EST > To: ranchos@yahoogroups.com > Subject: RE: Odd names WAS Re: [ranchos] Re: Godina Family > > Hi Peggy: > > Actually, "Peggy" is a nickname, a diminuative, for Margaret and what could be prettier than Margarita? You really are a Margarita at heart. And Margaret, I believe, may come from the Greek for pearl. And margaritas are also lovely daisies. Hi everyone! I feel like I am coming in late into
this conversation, nevertheless, here's my 2-bit contribution. I agree with Ed. I just received
more results from my DNA research. My Indian branch, which has thought of themselves as Indians (Tlaxcalans) have just received their dna results which indicate that they descend from a male line in northwest Europe (more closely related to the Vikings than the Spanish). It is haplpogroup I1a. Everybody is surprised (including one
of my doctor cousins who simply refuses to acknowledge the truth, never mind we the tests were run more than once on more than one individyal, by more than one company). It turns out that there is no memory in the family of anyone being Spanish on that side. For the last 300+ years, no one has said that they were mestizos, only Indian was mentioned on that male line. In fact, we even have stories about their fights with the Spanish and how they finally joined the Spanish. There |
Here is a list of names in MY family tree:NarcisoZerefina (or Zeferina)LeonisioTranquilinoPlutarcoAbundioBlasDeciderioGermanaRomualdaAbatoTirsoDionicioCasimiroSabinaSinecioI think they're all awesome, strong names, although I don't understand some of them. To me, they're all unique and very very cool. I wish my mom
had named me a typical Mexican name.....I've never liked my name and got teased a lot. Peggy, my name, sounds caucasian (nothing against caucasians, but I would have like something more .....I don't know....ethnic.......)Merry Christmas everyone!-----Original Message-----

I started my genealogy research after we named our last child. But recently I told my wife, if I had known the names of my great---grandparents, uncles, and aunts, I would have named our children after them. She saw my list, and told me "No, Way!" In that case, I would of just given their middle names, like or not, since I usually gave her first choice of picking the first names. I still think our early ancestor's names were beautiful.
