Arturo what do you suppose a figure would be for this monthly stipend? I have been corresponding with this man for the last week and I will be meeting with him during my upcoming trip to Mexico. He has proposed doing research in the Zacatecas state archives for a monthly stipend. I was wondering if there is anybody who is intereste and would be willing to "try him out". His name is Leonardo de La Torre Berumen |

Alicia says I write from the heart. Well, I am emotional---high
strung, they say. This morning I awoke to the strains of "Conquest". Some of you
younger ones know this tune as one played by the USC band at their games. Well, we elderly folk remember it from the movie "Captain from Castile", made many decades ago and starring Cesar Romero as Cortez, and Tyrone Power as the Captain from Castile. I followed the sound and found my husband in the den watching TV. I
asked him if it was the USC band playing, and he said no, it was the movie. He always scans the TV schedule. and when he sees that that movie will be screened, he makes sure to watch the last scenes. They are very stirring, since the score is played really loud. Da-dum, da-da-da-dum-da dum-da-dum-da da da da DUM! Da Dum! The last scene shows the little rag-tag coterie of Cortez once more on the march after they have conquered the Aztecs. The voice-over says "---many died, but many returned to Spain |

Arturo,
Oh, how I wish I could go with you to see that researcher. My father
was related to both the De La Torres and Berumens and collaterally to the Haros. Maybe he could help me find records on my father and his mother. My husband is related to the De Leons in Jalisco. Soon I will be updating and posting my husband's tree, and I will send a link to it on World Connect. Emilie Garcia

Well, John and Helyn,My father and his mother continue to elude me, but maybe they are helping me to help others. Hi Emilie: RIGHT AGAIN!!! That is my mother's record. It looks like whoever gave the information (probably my younger brother) got the year wrong. My father was born in 1906 and we always knew that my mother was three years older than he. Thank you.

John, Have you seen this entry in the Family Search IGI for a Prisciliano Cerro Godina born in Panuco? If this is yours, then the Gods are still with you. Emilie Garcia Port Orchard, WA ---

John,
My roots also seem to lead to Panuco, since that is where the original
Olagues were from before they came to Jerez and Tepetongo. I too have met a roadblock and dead end with my father's maternal side. Emilie Garcia

John, approximately 12 years ago I met a gentleman from the Somos Primos genealogical group at the Westwood Latter Day Saints library. I don't remember his name but he was a distant relative of my wife Rebeca Gutierrez Gonzalez; although she did not remember him. He told me he also was from the same Gonzales-Casillas family branch from Los Altos, like my wife. He helped me to interpret a 1797 Jerez marriage document written in Spanish. Anyway, this gentleman had genealogical charts of over 2200 past relatives that started in Los Altos and went all the way back to to the year 1200 in Spain. If you are able contact him, I'm sure he would be more that happy to share his findings with you. Also, the gentlemen looked like an Anglo (typical of many of those from Los Altos, fair, tall, blue eyes); his English and Spanish were excellent and he seemed very well educated, and friendly. He told me that he lived in San Fernando Valley and was a software programmer. If you contact the
John: I've seen Jerez baptism records from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. I requested these records (microfiche) a couple of years ago from our local LSD library. So they do exist. Is anyone on this list familiar enough with Guadalajara to have
information on this chocolateria?
La Sultana Gran Chocolateria, Molino y Tostador De Cafe. It was located Av. Alvaro Obregon 295 in Guadalajara. Aurelio
Reyes, Villasenor is also on the letterhead. It was established in
1900. My parents were there in 1941. I believe it was owned by
members of the de la Torre family.
Adolfo de la Torre owned several ranches around Guadalajara and
Tepatitlan de Morelos. His sister, Sophia de la Torre married
Castulo Romero, a tailor from Guadalajara. They lived in Tepatitlan
de Morelos ca. 1890-1910.
Thank you. Linda Romero
