I have a copy of the dispensa for Pedro Enríquez and Isabel Calderón, dated 3 Jul 1667 in San Felipe, Gto. It states Pedro was from San Luis Potosí and the bride from Nochistlán in Nueva Galicia.

However, it does not mention his parents. Some genealogists have him as Enríquez de Rivera (an influential family in San Luis Potosí) and others have him as Enríquez del Castillo.

7)- Enrique I, nació en 1070 y murio 1035, sucedió su hermano como rey. (Su hermano murió en 1100 de un accidental y cuestionable flechazo en una cacería.) Enrique fue rey hasta 1035. Enrique I se casó el 6 de agosto de 1100, en Westminster, con Edith Matilde, princesa escocesa, Desciende de King Alfred the Great, nacida en el 1080, en Dunfermline. Hija de Malcolm III Canmore, rey de Escocia y Santa Margarita. Casi no dejaron a Edith Matilde casarse. Se convocó a un concilio especial de la iglesia para asegurarse de que Edith Matilde no había hecho votos como monja. 10)- Leonor de Plantagenet (1156-1214), la hija del Monarca inglés Enrique II, casó en 1177, en Burgos, España, con Alfonso VIII, Rey de Castilla (1155-1214). Alfonso VIII es hijo de Sancho III, Rey de Castilla y Blanca de Navarra. Procrearon seis hijos, entre ellos a Berenguela, Infanta de Castilla.

11)- Berenguela, Infanta de Castilla (1180-1246), casó en Dec/1197, en Valladolid, con Alfonso IX, Rey de León (1171-1230). Procrearon a Fernando III, (San Fernando)

12)- Fernando III, Rey de Castilla y León “San Fernando” (1201-1252), casó el 30/Nov/1219, en Burgos, Francia, con Beatriz (Elizabeth Von Hohenstaufen) de Suabia, quien a su vez era hija de Felipe de Suabia. Este monarca unificó para siempre Castilla y León. Además jugó un papel preponderante en la reconquista de España en manos de los moros. Procrearon tres hijos, entre ellos, quien mantendría la corona, Alfonso X, más conocido como Alfonso, El Sabio.

13)- Alfonso X, (El Sabio) nació el 23/Nov/1221, en Toledo y falleció en 1284, en Sevilla, España. Tuvo varios matrimonios, llevándose a cabo uno de ellos el 26 de noviembre de 1248, con Violante de Aragón, hija de Jaime I de Aragón y de Violante de Hungría, nació en 1236, en Zaragoza y falleció en 1301, en Roscesvalles, Navarra, España. Procrearon once hijos, siendo uno de estos Fernando de la Cerda, Infante de Castilla.

14)- Fernando de la Cerda, Infante de Castilla, nació el 23/Oct/1255, en Valladolid y falleció el 25/July/ 1275, en Ciudad Real. Casó el 30/Nov/1269, en Burgos, con Blanca Capeto de Francia (1252-1320), quien era hija del rey de Francia Luis IX. Tuvieron dos hijos, siendo uno de ellos Alfonso de la Cerda Infante de Castilla.

15)- Alfonso de la Cerda, Infante de Castilla (1270-1334), casó con Mahalda Brienne-EU y procrearon a Luís de la Cerda, Infante de Castilla.

16)- Luís de la Cerda, Infante de Castilla, nació en 1291, Francia. Casó con Leonor de Guzmán en el 1306, en Sevilla. Luís de la Cerda, falleció el 5/July/1348, en La Motte-Sur-Rhone, Francia. Procrearon a Juan de la Cerda.

17)- Juan de la Cerda(1327-1357), nació en Sevilla. Juan de la Cerda y Sol Martínez procrearon a Martín González de la Cerda. En el testamento de Leonor Guzman ella deja un dinero para Sol Martinez y escribe que ella esta embarazada por su hijo Juan de la Cerda.

18)- Martín González de la Cerda, casó en el 1366, con Violante Alvarez Pereyra, hija ilegítima de Alvaro Gonçalves Pereira, Obispo de Braga. Genealogos no están de acuerdo de la madre de Violante. Los que dicen que es hermana completa de Nuñez Álvarez Pereira dicen que su madre es Iría Gonçalves de Carvahal. Algunos genealogos dicen que son medios hermanos y que la madre de Violante es Martinha Domínguez.

Lorenzo es hijo de Fernán Pérez de Ulloa Señor de Malgarrida y Gracia de Carvajal, vecinos de Cáceres, Fernán dio poder para testar a sus hijos el 11/Dec/1450. Lorenzo y Maria procrearon a Leonor de la Cerda.

22)- Leonor de la Cerda, casó con Balthazar Mendoza, hijo de Juan Pantoja y Elvira Alvarez de Mendoza. (Elvira es hija de Alfonso Duran Mendoza y Aldonza Vasquez de Sandoval. Filiación que consta en la carta de dote otorgada a favor de Juan Pantoja, el 3/Aug/1431) Balthazar y Leonor procrearon a Juan Pantoja.

They were required to get a marriage dispensation because they were closely related through Delgadillo, Lopez, and Valdivia ancestral lines. There was another relationship listed in the dispensation because the two wives were related. Eleuterio married his second wife one year after his first wife passed away.

A post on wikitree identifies Juana Jimenez as being married to a son of Cristóbal Delgadillo, but the marriage dispensation clearly identifies Juana Jimenez as being married to Jose Delgadillo, brother of Cristóbal Delgadillo. More research is needed to figure out if the wikitree post is correct or the dispensation.

Hi Sylvia, Ive been trying to find what I can about Nicolas Corvera and his parents Jose Trinidad Corvera and Petra Marquez. I saw in the Matrimonio of Nicolas Corvera that he was from Zaucillo de Leanos. Im more or less guessing that this is the same Saucillo located in the hills north east of Villanueva and east of La Quemada.
Looking at it from Google Earth it appears that there are walls or fences from previous habitation.

Villa Gutierre del Águila and Villanueva are synonymous--Villanueva is the new name changed in the last century. The place of origin for Nicolás Corvera reads "Zaucillo de los Lianos" or in modern Spanish it should be "Saucillo de los Llanos."

The film no. is 38309 and not 38311. Hernando Enriquez del Castillo was a notary in Guadalajara. This death certificate says that "Francisco Ahumada's" will was drawn by this Hernado Enriquez.

I have not been able to connect Vicente Enriquez's ancestors to the Guadalajara Enriquez del Castillo

Congratulations! I don’t know much about the Villalpando’s, other than Maria Sotelo was Tomas’ second wife, his first wife being Maria de Leon y Vargas, daughter of Francisco de Leon and Matiana de Vargas.
Here’s the IM for Juan Pichardo and Gertrudis Narbais, dated 10 Feb 1706, San Matias, Pinos. He was born around 1679 in Toluca, son of Joseph Picardo and Josepha de Arzate y Flores. Gertrudis Narbais was born around 1686 in San Luis Potosi, hija de padres no conocidos. There were 2-3 families named Narvaez in SLP; it’d be impossible to say which one she descends from.

Here’s the IM for Juan Antonio Villalpando cc Josepha Flores, dated 3 Feb 1727, Real de Asientos. The 3rd witness was Pedro Narvaes, born around 1670; he said he was related to one of the bridal couple. Though he doesn’t say which, he was probably related to Josepha through her mother. He is probably the same Pedro Narvaes (Mestizo) who was married to Isabel Rodriguez (India), and who was another orphan from San Luis Potosi.

I have not seen the marriage record of Cosme and Maria, so I don't know if it mentions the birthplace of Cosme or not. It may be worth ordering the record from Salt Lake to see if it does.

It is an interest conjecture to make that both parties would be from Galicia.

As you know the couple was married on 6 Jan 1676 in the Asuncion parrish, Mexico, Distrito Federal, MEXICO. The marriage is on Film 35269.

Otherwise, I’ve seen nothing on its history, other than what I’ve picked up along the way. The municipal seat of Villa Garcia was originally a hacienda called Agostadero, founded in 1595. Historically, it was in the jurisdiction of Real de Minas de Sierra de Pinos (Zacatecas), but depending on the era, it also fell into the jurisdiction of Real de Asientos (Aguascalientes). So if you’re looking for church records for ancestors, look in both dioceses (San Matias, Pinos, Zacatecas, and Nuestra Señora de Belen, Asientos, Aguascalientes).

My grandfather, J. Refugio Gonzalez Hermosillo, was born in La Montesa, Villa Garcia. His people had been living in the area since it was first settled by the Spanish. What families from there are you researching? I might be able to help you.

I found the death record for Romana Batres - 2 Aug 1918 in Fresnillo, Zac. Her family search ID is G41G-QVR. If anyone has any other info on her or her parents (Jose Zacarias Batres and Petra Garcia) I'd love to know. Thanks.

What does "la fabrica" refer to in the context of burials?

I am curious about this cemetery in Tepetongo called Campo Santo de los Sauces. I have ancestors who were interred there. Where would that be located today? Is it still there? Does it have a different name now? I see on Google maps that there is a cemetery in the town of Tepetongo and another just outside of La Lechiguita, in the general vicinity of Juanchorrey, Estancia de los Berumen, and Arroyo Seco.

Hi! I can also definitely read "Lisar" too. I read a post in here saying it could also be "Liras", which I honestly don't see but I guess it's also a posibility. But I do believe it could very well be "Hijar" too, which I understand is a last name in this area (and tends to be a compund last name, though not necessarily with Flores).

It's definitely "Lisar." My guess is it's short for Lisardi/Lizarde/Elizarde - the spelling varies. That was part of the compound surname "Lopez de Lizardi (sp)," who you can find throughout Aguascalientes and Los Altos de Jalisco.

This is a good question. I descend from this couple too. The only person that I know that uses the compound surname Garcia de Miranda is Angelina Garcia de Miranda that was married to Juan de Arrona and Martin Garcia. Angelina Garcia de Miranda was born about 40 years before the date you have listed for Alonso Garcia de Miranda / de Cuevas. Both estimates may be slightly off but I'm wondering whether Alonso Garcia de Miranda might be the son of Angelina Garcia de Miranda and Martin Garcia. Not saying for certain, but it might be a place to start.

I was only going to post a line of descent without any stories but decided to give a glimpse of the many stories to go along with this family tree. One of the stories involve the French civil war between descendants of the same woman, but from different fathers. She was forced to separate from her first husband because they were too closely related. It was mainly because of jealousy and politics that there was a complaint. Since she was forced to separate from her husband, she marries marries a second husband and has more children. Then the jealousy and politics really come to a boiling point as now she is being accused of bigamy by the people who said that her first marriage wasn’t valid. She provided for separate inheritances of the two families, but eventually her descendants are involved in a big civil war that involves much of France. There are many other interesting stories like a Frenchman being held prisoner in London by his distant cousin, the Black Prince Of England. While he was under lock and key, he played chess and socialized with his distant cousin. There is also a connection that contributes to France backing Enrique II in its civil war between King Pedro the Cruel of Castilla and his half brother, Enrique II.

I descend from Francisco de la Cueva Carvajal cc Maria de Villaseñor y Lomelin. Many members of this Cuevas Carvajal family used other surnames to distance themselves from the inquisition. Many families had some converso roots, so it wasn’t always about hiding some converso ancestry, but many families did want to distance themselves from any family members that were caught iin the “inquisition web.” There is a need to look at many “Dispensas “ from this family to untangle the family lines.

There was a Francisco de la Cueva Carvajal cc Maria de Villaseñor y Lomelin, who who I have as residents of Teocuitatlan, Jal, born around 1610ish. Some of their offspring ended up in Michoacan. Their daughter, Ysabel de la Cueva y Villaseñor, also used Olmo on at least one occasion, so there’s probably a link to Luis de Lomelin cc Maria del Olmo - though I have Maria de Villaseñor y Lomelin as daughter of Joseph de Villaseñor Figueroa cc Bernarda de Lomelin y Peralta aka Correa Lomelin.

Are you still looking for you Lopez family in Jalisco?

That has happened to me may times with different ancestors in that area of Jalisco.

I've found that many times people of those towns often are baptised in the surrounding nearby towns of Colotlan, Santa Maria De Los Angeles, and Tlaltenango de Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas. Of course, other towns are possible.

It's also possible that some of the original pages of the baptisimal books could've been destroyed or lost. By accident, I found a loose marriage record page in the film of a death records book.It was a miracle because I had been looking for that one marriage record for years!

I’m very excited by this find of yours. I am related to many of the people that you name. I descend from the Lopez De Elizalde, Ruiz De Esparza, Navarro and others. Though I don’t descend from Gaston Peralta, I do descend from Gaston Peralta’s half sister Ana.

The Ruiz De Esparza were themselves a conversó family, but they had converted in the 1200’s so they weren’t recent conversos. Because their family had been Catholic for over two centuries, they were considered Cristiano Viejo by the time of this document. The Navarro's also had a Jewish past as Petronila Sotelo Moctezuma also had conversos lines that sufferered through the inquisition. Her conversó family suffered through the inquisition for both suspicion of continuing to practice Judaism, and for Lutheranism as they accused many of her family members of taking Christianity too far for forming scripture study and prayer groups.

Big, big congradulations on this find! This is really exciting and I look forward to further posts by you in this thread and the future ones you refer to above!

You suggest that there must have been a Pedro Fernandez de Vaulus el Viejo, since a "Mozo" is named in the document, and that el Viejo could be identical with Pedro Hernandez who came to Mexico with Gaston de Peralta who was sent to straighten out the mess created by the conspiracy case of 1566 involving two of Cortes' sons, among a number of other Spaniards. See the pages in this book by Hugh Thomas (World Without End, in google books) for more information on it:

Diego Arias de Sotelo was also implicated in the conspiracy and sent into exile. (His brother Balthazar was executed.) If what you suggest is true, that makes Gaston de Peralta an early link between Fernandez de Vaulus family and the Arias de Sotelo family - perhaps the link that led to the union of their families - El Mozo's son married Diego de Sotelos granddaughter. It would be a link that pre-dates Petronila and Martin Gabai. To my knowledge (someone correct me if I am wrong) there is still no primary source that Petronila is the daughter of Leonor de Valderrama (granddaughter of Emperor Moctezuma) and Diego Arias de Sotelo. Your information may ultimately give some new, concrete leads on this.

In addition, your discovery is a solid contribution to the pool of sources on the persecution of the new Christians in Mexico. Well done!

I wonder if your ancestor calpitan Joseph Lazo De la Vega is related to Simón Lasso (Lazo) de la Vega de Guzmán, who was also a capitán. Are you sure that Joseph Lazo De la Vega was born in Sevilla? Please provide sources and as much information as you can.

Three different places they went to are Valle de Guadalupe, Jalostotitlan, and Tepatitlan. Valle de Gpe. Is the closest, but I have seen some of their records in Jalos and Tepa.

Lorenso Mejia who married Josefa de Paez was son of the other, born from his second marriage to Ines de Estrada. Here’s my notes on this family group:

Lorenso Mejía married twice. His first wife was Mariana de Aguayo, daughter of Diego de Aguayo and Gerónima de Benavides. Mariana de Aguayo died sometime before Aug 1638.

The children of Lorenso Mejía and Mariana de Aguayo are:
1. Matías Mejía Aguayo, d. 02 May 1700, Nochistlán, Zac; m. Dorotea de San Ignacio Juárez y Rodríguez.
2. Juan Mejía. Appears in the 1649 padrón, having confessed and received communion.
3. José Mejía Aguayo, c. 1663, Nʳª Sʳª de los Dolores, Teocaltiche, Jal; m. Magdalena de Islas Sandoval, 30 Sep 1664, Nochistlán, Zac.
4. Juana Mejía Aguayo, c. 03 Mar 1635, Nochistlán, Zac.

Lorenso Mejía married Inés de Estrada on 27 Aug 1638, in Nochistlán; their padrinos were Bernardino de Islas, and his sister-in-law, Josefa de Sandoval. The fact that one of their daughters used the surname Íñiquez and Íñiquez de Estrada, leads me to believe that Inés de Estrada might be a daughter of Jacome Íñiquez and María de Estrada, who were early settlers in Nochistlán, though I’ve been unable to verify it. Inés de Estrada died before 20 Sep 1649, as Lorenso Mejía is listed as a widower in the padrón of that year.

The children of Lorenso Mejía and Inés de Estrada are:
